We Know The Father Of Anna Nicole’s Baby

I’m not going to even bother linking to the story of who the dad is (go find it), but I just hope that now that this information is released, this will be the last we hear of this whole mess for a good long time. I don’t know about everybody else here, but I couldn’t care any less about some celebrity’s messed up life. I feel horrible for her innocent daughter because she’s innocently being born into this mess.

The only reason I even know this happened is because a co-worker, who apparently has more free time than some of us, came running in telling us that they know who the dad is. Who frickin’ cares? While it’s tragic that she died (as it is for anybody), it’s not worth the coverage she has gotten.

Everybody Gripes About “Those Stupid Teenagers…”

But sometimes, there are some teens out there, like this local teen, who do really good things.

It was the biggest victory of Ben Watts’ young career, and he wanted to share it with a fellow Bend snowboarder who couldn’t be there with him.

After winning the overall freestyle title at the USA Snowboard Association Nationals last week at Northstar at Tahoe resort, the 13-year-old Watts was awarded a check for $500.

Watts then walked over to his coach, Hans Hibbard, and asked him to give the money to a fund for Tyler Eklund.

If you don’t know who Tyler Eklund is, read up here. But that was a really cool gesture by a good kid.

Vince Genna: 1912-2007

I had mentioned before that he was in poor health, and it finally got to him: Local parks pioneer Vince Genna died yesterday. Story on bendbulletin.com and ktvz.com. My he rest in peace.

You’ve Got Five Minutes…

Stupidly Expensive eBay Auctions and Amazon Items

I always like periodically checking this page, as it’s basically all the items listed currently on eBay, sorted by highest price first. The current high item is a custom water-powered engine, running for a cool $60-million.

This, to go along with a crapload of really expensive Amazon items.

I’m Not A Drinker…

…and even if I was, I still couldn’t justify $1700 for a bottle of cognac (though 24 bottles have been sold in Oregon in the last year, so somebody must be drinking it).

Never Thought I’d See The Day

The Bulletin has an RSS feed. Naturally, it only has their free stories (which means there are only four in the feed right now), but it’s better than nothing. I have no idea how long it’s been up and functional, though I know I did try it yesterday and it wasn’t validating properly so my feedreader wasn’t able to open it (that appears to have been resolved now).

So I guess I’ll have to quit using Jon’s scrapped together feed. And if you’re looking for feeds from other local media outlets, I’ve got several linked here.

So Is Anybody Else At The Office Today?

Or am I the only one? Just curious….

Happy Easter.

An Easter Scandal!

Cadbury is shrinking our Creme Eggs, and they’re denying it. But BJ Novak had the smoking egg, and he shared it on Conan:

Easy Peer-to-Peer Wireless Network

WiPeer is a simple little program that enables serverless peer-to-peer networks using wireless cards, and I could see this being really handy.

– You are visiting your friends and would like to transfer photos of a shared trip from your laptop to theirs. Wouldn’t it be great if you could share your files with them directly from one computer to the other?

– You are sitting in a boring lecture. You and your friends all have laptops, but your university has not installed an access point in the lecture room. Wouldn’t it be great if you could play a game of Chess or Reversi against them, or even gossip with them about yesterday’s football match?

– You are stuck in an airplane for a long flight and you are looking for something to do. If you could only play a game of Chinese checkers with other passengers…

– You have a home network, or even a small office network, and you’d like to share files among your computers without having to set up a dedicated server. There has to be a simple way of doing this.
