We Always Forget The Chips…

When Thanksgiving rolls around, I don’t like to be one of those people that is shopping the day or two before to get last-minute items. I like to get stuff planned a bit more in advance for our gatherings so we don’t have to try to find that last tub of Cool Whip along with the rest of the population of Bend.

But there is one thing we forget nearly every year — Tostitos. Every year we make a seven-layer dip, and every year we get all the ingredients for the dip, and every year we forget to get something to actually dip into said dip. I’ve made many day-of trips to the store to get those stupid chips, and while this year I managed to remember it the day before (just got back from the store), I’m still not happy about it. I’m posting this note here so that hopefully I’ll remember next year, and that all of you will politely remind to not forget the chips for the dip.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

(And no, I will not be at any of the Black Friday sales. Nothing’s worth dealing with that madness. If I can’t get it online, I’m not getting it.)

Cheap Plug

See that Cascade Winds banner over there to the right of this text? Click on it. There’s a concert coming up. I’m in the band. I’m a percussionist in the group — which really means I bang on stuff to sheet music — and have been for 15 years. It’ll be a great concert, and I encourage you all to come out (it’s family-friendly, so bring the kids). Full press release after the jump.

Free To Good Home: Small Critters

We have a long-haired Guinea Pig and a Teddy Bear Hamster with full cage setup that need homes. The Guinea Pig just doesn’t get along with our current pig, but is very nice and friendly and calm piggie otherwise (easy to handle and does fine by itself), and the hamster is just too nocturnal for us. They’re both very sweet and nice. I’m posting it here as I know many of the people who comment on this site, and hopefully will find somebody who can give it a good home. E-mail me (or comment below) if you’re interested.

Kids These Days

Either I’m getting too old or teenagers are getting too stupid. Or probably a bit of both…

Going To The Duck Game

I’m heading over to Eugene in about an hour to watch the Duck game, and have ended up with an extra reserved ticket (as the folks who were originally going to go with me ended up bailing on me). If anybody wants it for dirt-cheap and will happen to be in Eugene anyway or wanted to head over there, email me using the form at right. I’ll have my Blackberry so I’ll be checking email, and will check my email before I head out of town as well as when I get near Eugene (the game’s at 12:30 today).

Update: Nobody claimed the ticket, and I couldn’t even give it away at the stadium. Why? It was a rainy, nasty mess and nobody was really trying too hard to get into the stadium. Despite wearing a rain coat, I was still soaked, and after the 3rd quarter, started the sloggy hike back to my car as I was totally soaked and could’ve probably have rung out my pants. Thankfully they won, but at least I did get to see some ol’ college buddies while I was there.

How I Plan To Vote Next Time

I’ve already turned in my ballot (or at least filled it out — will drop it off tomorrow), but I’m thinking I’m going to change my voting thought process during the next election. Next time around, I’m going to keep a tally on which ballot measures or political offices put the most crap in my inbox, my mailbox, or on my doorstep, and the group or candidate that badgers me the least will get my vote. I came home on Saturday after being gone most of the day to find my mailbox filled and door hangers all over my porch and front yard. I can only imagine the countless trees that were killed during this election cycle trying to convince me that a certain measure or candidate is good or evil.

I don’t know about you, but whatever the outcome, I’ll just be happy when this election is over.

Happy Halloween

Everybody who has read this site for long knows how much I love Halloween </sarcasm>. Just the same, thanks to Cheryl, here’s something entertaining for you.

Edit: Fixed the 2nd link — wouldn’t want anybody to miss out on my labels.

Don’t Worry, She Won’t Be An Anorexic Waif

So apparently my daughter talked to The Bulletin for their weekly Kids In The Hall, where they ask school kids a question. This week, they were apparently at my daughter’s school, and asked her what she wanted to be for Halloween. Her answer? “I’m going to be a model, because my cousin and I decided to both be models.” (link behind The Bulletin paywall). She says “model” but it’s more like “Glamour Girl” (at least that’s what we discussed before), as while my daughter is built like a model (tall and skinny, despite eating like a horse), encouraging her to be a model is something we’re just not going to do. She’s eight-years-old, for cripes sakes — thankfully she doesn’t know the difference (and is smart enough to realize the problem if she did). Same thing with her cousin. They’re both smart, bright, kids who eat plenty and will both do something great with their lives, thankyouverymuch.

But thanks for the concerns sent my way today. Now can you get on with your life and quit being so concerned about my parenting skills? Get a hobby, folks. Thanks.

BendBlogs RSS Feed Tweaks

Until I get a announcement blog setup on Bend Blogs (long term goal, among many), I’m posting this here: I’ve tweaked the RSS feed for Bend Blogs to use FeedBurner, and setup a redirect today so people should be starting to hit the Feedburner feed instead. If you have issues in your reader, please let me know, but Feedburner crunches the feed to make it compatible with dang near everything out there, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issues. It will also give me a better idea who’s coming in via the feeds and gives me the ability to put small text ads in the feeds.

It does, however, kill the ability to have feeds for individual blogs on the site. So this URL used to get you the RSS feed for just UtterlyBoring.com entries that are indexed on BendBlogs.com, but it now redirects to the main RSS feed (hardly anybody used the Bend Blogs individual site RSS feeds, and it would make more sense to just use the actual blog’s RSS feed).

So How’d You Spend Your Evening?

I spent it up on my roof, probably confusing the crap out of my neighbors, with a 50-foot chunk of plumbing snake, trying to clean out my drains (which backed up in my bathrooms) and then scrubbing everything clean so I wouldn’t be repulsed using it again.

You?
