Lego Creations

This is far more impressive than the converted Powerbook I mentioned before. This guy created a whole computer from scratch and the case is entirely Lego.

And then there’s this guy that made a 10-foot speed boat entirely out of Lego.

Some people have far too much time on their hands.

Free Tax Filing

I’m mostly bookmarking this for my own reference but this page will be handy for anybody in the U.S., so I thought I’d share.

I’ve generally paid money every year to file my taxes with TurboTax (which is so stupidly easy to use, even for complicated returns, that I don’t know why people pay H&R Block $250+ to do it all). But if you go through the links at the above site, you can get a free federal filing on TurboTax and a ton of other sites (you still might have to pay for state tax filing). Since I’ll also be doing my in-law’s taxes, this will be very handy.

Now I just need to get my paperwork from the department of education and from Google (as I have to claim my meager AdSense earnings as income), then I can start filing this bad boy and (hopefully) get a fat refund to completely pay off the hospital (still owe them money from last year’s surgery) and maybe buy a toy or something.

Do Not Go Here During Work Hours

This is so dang cool. This site makes is possible to play online thousands of classic Sega, Nintendo, GameBoy and Arcade games.

I know I’ll be spending far too much time playing here now. I might as well kiss my day goodbye.

Blessed Be Thy Ferrari

It’s not drivable, but the Pope now has a hot-red Ferrari to call his own. Thanks Cheryl for the link.

SNL Transcripts

This is why the Internet is wonderful. Where else can you find 2,524 transcripts from Saturday Night Live?

Girls: Looking to Date A Geek?

Why wouldn’t you? Geek guys rule.

<singing>Eight Six Seven Five Three Oh Nine

I’m amazed somebody didn’t do this before. This guy called every single 867-5309 number in the U.S. and reported on the results. If you don’t know the significance of that number, there is a popular 80s song by Tommy Tutone called “Jenny (867-5309)” about a guy finding a girl’s name and number on a wall and he wants to call it. The song led to telephone lines getting jammed when the song first came out, which led to the rumor that telephone companies don’t give the number out or discontinued every 867-5309 out there. Obviously, this guy proved that wrong.

Access to GuruNet is Now Free

If you do any sort of research at all online, this is a happy day for you.

GuruNet, the very useful and formerly subscription-based ready-reference web database and client app, full of fast facts and other information from over 100 reference sources, has launched a new site: Answers.com and is now available for free.

That’s right, the complete database, is now accessible via a web interface or a “1-click” client app (Windows or Mac), is available at no charge. Here’s a directory of the sources available from Answers.com.

This is an incredible resources for researchers, so be sure to book mark it.

Elephants Helping Out With Tsunami Cleanup

There are just some places that human-made machines are not meant to go.

BANG NIENG, Thailand – A year ago, they were filming battle scenes for the movie “Alexander.” Now six elephants are pitching in to help with the massive cleanup from the tsunami that devastated many of Thailand’s prime tourist destinations.

[…]

While heavy machinery works on the tangled wreckage that used to be posh seafront resorts, some areas are too muddy or hilly for anything other than 4 foot drive.

So the Wang Chang elephant farm in the 17th-century Thai capital of Ayuddhaya offered to send in its best pachyderms. They arrived by truck Sunday in Phang Nga and got to work immediately — after a quick shower to cool off in the tropical heat.

“The six were chosen because they are smart and can act on command,” said Romthongsai Meephan, one of the elephant farm’s owners.
