Google adds new features

It’s beefed up Froogle, and it’s also added a search by number feature that lets you directly enter UPS tracking numbers, FedEx tracking numbers, U.S. patent numbers, FAA airplane registration numbers and FCC equipment IDs. For weather conditions at U.S. airports, just enter the three letter airport code, followed by the word airport — for example, “den airport.” Full story.

Down the line, I’d love to see them implement these features.

James Brown, the government official?

Secretary of State Colin Powell has unofficially appointed James Brown the U.S. Secretary of Soul and Foreign Minister of Funk. Damn that’s funny stuff.

Still reminds me of that Eddie Murphy SNL Skit where he danced around in a speedo, acting like James Brown.

Tech workers scream “I told you so!”

Been meaning to post this, but haven’t had a chance. As you know, I’ve had my dealings with overseas call centers, and they’ve been nothing but unpleasant. Major computer companies are using them because they’re far cheaper to run — despite the fact that, for years, tech workers and consumers have been bitching that it’ll come back to bite them. Dell is the first major company to announce they’re going to ditch their India call center for their corporate customers. It’s about damn time somebody came to their senses. Now if Dell would quit using proprietary parts, life would be good, but that’s another story for another time.

A virtual drum kit

Since I was unable to play in the band because of my back problems, I’ve been killing my time with this. Still not as good as the real thing, but a fun substitute while I’m stuck here on the couch.

Visit Jack tomorrow and raise money for charity

Jack is planning on giving a $1 to charity tomorrow for every hit he gets on his site. His goal is to raise $1,000 for charities that fight hunger in Oregon. He calls it his Buck-a-Hit day.

Super Mario Brothers 3 — in 11 minutes

(I’m finally getting around to posting this now that a good mirror is available — if the mirror goes down, e-mail me and I’ll post the video here.)

My favorite game of the NES era was Super Mario Brothers 3. A great game that’s still quite popular. I’ve finished it numerous times, but I can’t say that I’ve ever done it quite like this guy, who not only finished it in 11 minutes, but did it with some fancy footwork as well. Nicely done.

The one gigapixel digital photo

Yes, you read that right. And you can find it here. It consists of 196 separate photographs taken with a 6 megapixel digital camera, and then stitched together into one seamless composite. The final image is 40,784 x 26,800 pixels in size, and contains about 1.09 billion pixels. It’s an absolutely breathtaking picture, as well.

Dodge plans Lingerie Bowl during halftime of Super Bowl

Only on pay-per-view, of course, can you watch 14 lingerie-clad women (seven-on-seven) play tackle during half time of the Super Bowl. They had a lingerie show last year, if I remember correctly. Be sure to check out the bowl’s official site.

The Matrix in ASCII

Comics via RSS

Finally, I can just plug these in my RSS reader, and never have to go to a comic’s specific page to download it. Sweet! And some of my favorites are in there, too.
