OMG, I hate PETA. I have a pure white rabbit fur coat and some little bitch comes up to me in the street and says “Oooh! I’m telling Mommy! You’re wearing a DEAD BUNNY on you!” and then she drools cherry lollipop all over the sleeve and says she was a “Junior PETA Activist: Protecting the Bunnies!” She even had a silly little patch on. Are you religious? Any religion will do. They all say animals are a source for our food, so does biology. Humans are omnivorous and eat meat and plants. Unless you are going to get mad everytime a wolf nourishes itself with a rabbit or a whale, which is an animal that organizations like PETA want to save, feeds itself with thousands of fish smaller than itself? I guess you’ll also be angry when a man in a third-world country kills an animal to feed his family and clothe himself in winter? If you have any remote idea of what something called the food chain is then you’ll realize how saving the animals contradicts human survival, how preservation of all life comes from primary consumers feeding off the land, secondary consumers feeding off the animals and the land consuming the nitrogen rich corpses to regrow.
What good does it do to ruin an animals fur after that animal died? All that says is that not only did the animal die to clothe someone, it died in vain. I’ll gladly step down from this opinion if anyone can give me a legitimate reason why PETA is not a horrible, pointless organization.

I understand that animals save lives and in some countries, people need to live off of them to survive. I am a vegeterian and I think it is ok to eat meat but not the way the animals are tortured. Most of the animals you eat never get to see a day of sunlight, are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics, and suffer a great deal before they are painfully slaughtered. Animals feel the same pain as we do. I just don’t think it’s fair.

i think this flier is a bit disturbing and i agree it’s teaching kids to look down at there parents which i totally agree is wrong. Although, i’m a dedicated vegetarian and animal activist. Since PETA views animals on the same ethical plane as humans, saving the lives of a thousand rats with the sacrifice of one person, would be perfectly acceptable.
Since animal lives are the same value in human lives, then saving one thousand rats, at the expense of one, two, even fifty people, would be the better weight.
How is this at all logical? Reasonable?
PETA may see this as “extreme or an exaggeration”, but this is exactly what they are preaching.
If you were in a situation where there were one thousand animals that could be saved, or say one to nine hundred and ninty nine people could be saved, animal rights would dictate that you should save the thousand animals, over the human lives, because animal lives are equal in value and on the same ethical plane as humans.
Of course animal rights activist would shoot that down, but they don’t realize that that is exactly what message they would convey.
I think PETA is nothing but propaganda and extremism, not to mention that most supporters and activist for PETA are bigots and very self absorbed.

I have to agree with Peta=cruelty. There are a lot of places (I used to live in Missouri) where there are so many animals, if you dont have people who hunt them then the community becomes overgrown with them. Deer run out into traffic and can cause accidents and death to innocent people. Other animals would attack innocent people if they didnt get hunted as well. Peta screams at people who hunt or have pets or fur coats calling us evil and murderers. They picket and become violent and set off dirty bombs at innocent people who work at kennels and adoption centers. They call it evil because they euthanize animals if they arent able to adopt them out to homes. At least they are trying. How hypocritical is it that PETA is so violent towards these places that euthanize animals when they themselves actually euthanize animals? How is it ok for them and not ok for the people who run these adoption centers? If we didnt euthanize some of these animals (i hate the thought of it but it is necessary) and spay and neuter others we would become overgrown with cats and dogs just like many places in the US are overrun by accident causing deer. I love animals. I have a dog who is my world. I would do anything for her. I love being out in nature and enjoying the wildness of all creatures. However, there does have to be control. The thing that makes me the most mad with Peta activists and vegans (although i have nothing against veganism) is that other than a select few, most that i have known have been hypocrites. If your going to feel so strongly about something, go all out on it. Dont be a hypocrite and sneak a peice of meat once in a while, or own a pet (PETA is against it). I believe that it is okay to eat meat, it is for valuable resources one’s body needs. However, I disagree with wearing fur as an expensive fashion statement. In third world countries, you may not have an option, however, if you live in a country that is more developed you have other choices such as cotton or so on, which are alas, cheaper even. The problem with PETA is the way in which it feels the need to impose their beliefs on people in such radical and unlogical ways. There are many places that save/protect animals, feed homeless animals and so on that actually do what they preach, rather than just getting people’s attention about the subject in such a negative light. You don’t need to support PETA to support animal rights. There are plenty of better, yet under recognised, organisations.

How can you hate vegetarians when all they want to do is NOT condone killing. Oh, right, I am a horrible person because I don’t eat meat. I forgot. I agree that PeTA doesn’t go about their ways of trying to convince people well. But that doesn’t mean that all vegetarians are like that. But I suppose that people who hate so much would never be able to understand something like saving a life or promoting non-violence. By the way, if everyone in the world were vegetarian (not even vegan as PeTA promotes), the people in the third world countries wouldn’t have to eat meat because all of the food and grains used to feed animals who are raised purely to be slaughtered could feed those people. But no one actually thinks about that. Being vegetarian is not only better for the animals, but better for the earth, it saves tons of natural resources, land and water. with the above post, first off fish don’t have nerves in thier lips so they cant even feel a hook and most sportsmen know that if a fish swollows a hook you don’t rip it out you cut the string and the hook will be digested. Whenever I clean a fish, I first kill the fish by a knife through the skull because there is no pain and intantly killed. Good question. What’s wrong with milk. cheese, and eggs. First dairy cows are kept in crowded spaces, where they pack hundreds of them toghther. They have to constanly stand in their feces and are treated horribly. They are given chemicals so they can produce more milk, which unfournately cause their udders to swell and give them constant pain. When they no longer produce the milk like they use to they are sent to the slaughterhouse. Hens that lay eggs are belived to be one of the worst treated animals. They are crowded 9 hens to a cage that is a little bigger than a file drawer.Their beaks are cut off because many go insane and they peck each other to death. They are constanly also fed chemicals that cause them to lay more eggs, but they get infections all over their bodys. Most animals that are raised for food only see the light of day the day they are transported to the slaughterhouse. See why milk, cheese, and eggs are not big at PETA?
WHoa hold the phone, living here in Wisconsin I know a lot of dairy farmers and been and many farms. I do not a single farmer who mistreats their cows, those cows are taken very well care of because that is how the farmers make money. The reason the udders swell is because they produce milk and it only hurts when they are NOT milked for long periods of time, dairy cows die if not milked at least once a day, it has been so embeded into their habbit and genetics that that these animals would never survive in the wild. The beef people eat is Not cow, it is steer. When old cows stop producing milk, they arnt killed they are “put out to pasture” they roam in the fields all day. Cows are kept in pens only at night and the winter, now a typical farm doesnt have more than 20 people working it so if a cow poops in its pen, it may be a while before it is cleaned. Now a common thing that I find with PETA is that they keep saying “how would you like it if…” well, I personally wouldnt like hanging around in a pen all day but I am not a cow, for all we know cows love it. I dont like playing fetch but dogs seem to, I dont like eating mice but owls do. I feel that PETA is a good idea but they have lost thier way. PETA should be concerned with finding actual animal abuse and preventing/stopping it, now they they just seem to find one problem and try to stop the whole industry PETA shold not go after everything such as the dairy industry they should go after Bob and his dairy farm for abusing animals ond so on…

A puppy drinks milk from its mother, that milk was made for the puppy. Cows milk was not made for humans. I could of sworn breast milk was made for babys to drink. So cow milk must have been made for calfs. I have never heard of cows dying from not being milked for one day. What about cows that roam around on pastures all day. If that was true they would dropping like flys. You can not say that a cow has never been slaughtered for beef. Yea steers are killed for the majority since they are naturally bigger, but most slaughterhouses don’t want to spend the money to just let cows roam around until they die. Their is a difference if a between animals killing it’s prey int the wild. For most animals that is their only food. Last time I checked humans are perfectly capable of not eating meat. No human will die from cutting meat from their diet.

PETA is the most pointless, worthless, and useless organization I’ve heard of. All they do all day is sit around and think up devious ways to “target” people who wear fur. I’m so sick of this repetitive bullshit. What they don’t realize also is that they themselves are some of the biggest hypocrites in the industry. For Christ’s sake, I’m sure the women wear make-up and they (just like regular people) use soap and hair products–ALL of which are tested on animals and made from animal fats. PETA=Cruelty made some important points when talking about over-crowding in the animal population. All animals need regulations to keep them contained and under control. PETA never even thinks to realize that if an animal population, say deer, overcrowds, then it can cause disastrous results affecting the whole population and not just a few individuals. Animals compete for living spaces, habitats, mates, food, and nesting sites–if these materials are less abundant then animals can truly suffer “inhumane cruelty”, not having niches or habitats in which they can survive. Population overcrowding causes these materials to be less abundant because they quickly become occupied by a species, which ultimately results in a “boom & bust” reaction in which the “carrying capacity” is reached and cannot support any more life. As exponentially as the population, say deer, increased, it decreases just as quickly. Certain animals like deer do not have regular “natural” predators in the wild, excluding humans. This means that the only regulations this population has comes from humans. This means that we have the RESPONSIBILITY to keep them under control, for the good of the entire population, both animal and human. PETA is so willing to practice their Ahimsa-like beliefs in harming no animal, but cannot realize the disaster that can overturn if the HUMAN population is overrun with natural predators. We will become extinct, if this is the case. This is survival of the fittest (natural selection)–and to survive is to maintain a position of height and power on the food chain. Here’s a fun fact: if this world was not run by humans and mammals, it would be run by arthropods and mollusks, according to theory. There is no difference between the two comparisons, save (except) the class each type belongs to. And for these animals to be on top of the food chain is to be the most powerful–and with power would come cruelty. And as for PETA: Trust me, animals are less willing to befriend humans than we are to befriend them. It is not your duty to affect the lives of other animals, only yourself. So according to these “PETA LOVERS”, we can’t drink milk or eat eggs and cheese–well try this on for size–if we can’t interact with nature then neither can you. Don’t sit there and tell us that we can’t affect the natural course of events while doing it yourselves. If milk is made for baby calves and we should not have the right to consume it then you should not have the right to protect it–it’s not your milk to protect. Case closed.

Frankly, I’ve always said live and let live. I’m a vegan, I do it because it’s what I, note that I, need to do to sleep better at night. Frankly, even when I was an omnivore I thought fur was stupid… But It’s that person’s choice. That’s where PETA really p*sses me off. By trying to force a way of life upon people. I don’t eat meat, I don’t wear fur, I’m phasing out my leather that I own. No one will tell me to eat meat, cuz it ain’t gonna work, I don’t want to. Ive lived on a farm my whole life and i cant handle when friends on mine in my young democrats club start huge conversations about how great peta is.
I have lived on a farm my whole life and trust me, if i did anything to hurt the animals i would get the exact same thing done to me. ( maybe thats a little exageration, but i WOULD BE punished)
Also to people who think vets are from h***, well i just want to say, i plan on graduating next year and start going to college to become a large animal vet (focusing on farm animals) and if i ever see anybody doing anything they will get reported, but to those who do well to the animals THEY WILL BE PRAISED perhaps ill even buy them a beer.
Just because a few people treat animals like crap doesnt mean that all people do it. That would be just like saying just because some families suffer from abuse, all families do.We arent going to punish the families that do well, just punish those who are bad, and thats the same thing that happens on farms. Farms are constantly having surprise checks on them and trust me, many are busted.
Even when im at fair ( you know that place where you bring your home raised animals to sell for money for yourself and then send them to a HUMANE slaughter house) if i see anybody treat the animals poorly they would probably loose a limb. Wether it be a fair visitor or a kid with an animal, i will still do something to stop it, and you know still at the end of the week im perfectly willing to send it to slaughter.

I hate P.E.T.A. They are such big, fat hypocrites! I read from several different sources that they will steal hunting dogs and actually kill them, and send letters to their owners to stop hunting! And they call themselves animal protectors! It’s insane! These people are wacko. No, that’s too kind; they’re cruel! And haven’t they heard that it’s called “destruction of property” when they are so mean and spray fur? Plus, they are sooo weird about hunting. P.E.T.A really doesn’t give that much money to animals. Actually, hunters give more money to the environment, because they are required to send donations in order to get a liscense. Plus, hunting actually helps the environment, because in places like Maryland, where the deer are overpopulated, it’s more humane to shoot them then run over them with cars, for crying out loud!
How come no one points out the fact that the only reason members of PETA exist today is because their ancestors killed and ate animals? f–k, animals are NATURAL RESOURCES. The only reason anyone is here today is because our ancestors lived off of animals. And for that matter, animals are here because THEIR ancestors lived off of animals. If animals can eat, kill, and make use of other animals, why can’t we? Seems to me like PETA is a direct result of boredom. Animals do not suffer like humans. Animals do not have feelings. They don’t want us to have pets??! Wouldn’t it be cruel to toss ol’ Sparky dog onto the street to fend for himself, considering Sparky is a chahuahua with no ball sack, clipped nails, and ground down teeth? What the f–k PETA?! And another thing. Because there are many. How can you possibly hold an animal’s life in higher esteem then your own fellow man? Say you have a daughter, Sue, who has cancer. There’s a pill out there that was tested on an animal (a nasty putrid rodent) and it’s proven that on pill will cure your dying daughter’s cancer. You cannot honestly tell me that you wouldn’t save your own daughter’s life because an animal might have died in the struggle for the cure. And if you do, I would like you to please send your name and address to me…so we can hang out…

This is all a load of rubbish. PETA may be trying to enforce their views on people, but only because they believe it would make the world a better place. Fur is horrible, it is a horrible horrible thing, and its not just “oh there is some fur left over from the rabbit we made stew out of” its a whole other industry. And its cruel and unneccessary now we have fake fur, which is nicer, cheaper and kinder.
Eating meat I think is wrong, I get annoyed when other people don’t see it my way but I allow them to carry on. PETA still supports people who are making any small change in their life, whether they continue eating meat but go free range, or stop buying fur. Meat is a horrible industry as well as fur. And yes, other animals do kill each other, but that is because they don’t have the option to create fake meat. They may need it to survive, or not have the intelligence to think of other ways to survive, but we can. This doesn’t make us not equal to them, because even in humans there are some people with much lower intelligence, but their life is still just as worthy as our own.
And of course, if put in a situation where a PETA member had to choose between the life of a human and the life of a rat, they would pick the human, its instinct.
PETA being against animal testing is not bad. Testing new cancer drugs on a rat is not going to tell you if it will cure cancer for a human. We are not anything like rats. We don’t get the same illnesses as rats, and we don’t have the same body types. Therefore it is pointless really. Especially now when there are other and more effective ways of testing drugs.
The dairy industry is often bad because of how they get rid of male calves/chicks who cannot be further used. Male carves are torn away from their mothers and made in to veal. All so we can have the milk that was produced for them?
There would not be an overpopulation of animals if we did not eat them. In this country we don’t have a severe horse population problem do we? Animals are bred for food, therefore if less people eat them, less would be bred. Less would be killed. Less would be bred. Until it was stable. Hunting, someone said before about deer running in to the road and killing people? Really, this could not be solved by just shooting the deer before hand, you have to allow a species to live. People cause car crashes, you can’t just go around hunting them.
And of course in psome oorer countries, where they do not have the option of “Quorn” or something, they do continue to kill animals and wear fur. This does not make it alright for people like us to. We have a choice, and you either can’t be bothered to make it, or you do make it.
And PETA, who try to put this point forward, and are trying to make a positive difference in the world we live in, are not evil. Just because you don’t like what people are saying, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen.
p.s. Jesus ate meat because that was just a norm at the time. Perhaps if he was around now he wouldn’t but who knows? I’d like to think not.

I don’t care what anyone says, PETA people are crazy. I mean, come on, telling a kid that their mom kills animals? Their dad’s a fish-killers? What the hell is that? PETA’s worrying about how the animals feel — how about how the kids feel when crazy tree-huggers attack them outside their preschool?
Here’s the bottom line. Humans are animals. Many animals eat other animals (scientists call them carnivores, or omnivores for those who also eat plants). As omnivores, it’s natural for us to eat animals, but it isn’t wrong not to (so vegetarianism or veganism is ok if you’re into that). It’s fine if you do, fine if you don’t. And as an avid meat-eater, I don’t go around forcibly telling vegetarians they should eat meat (even though they wouldn’t stand for it—I know one personally). So I don’t see how PETA can go around telling anyone how wrong it is to eat animals.
Sure, I’m against the cruel treatment of animals, but I won’t fall for anyone’s bullshit propaganda — least of all PETA’s. I know that not every slaughterhouse abuses the animals and that some (perhaps very few) do. Comparing the treatment of animals to the Holocaust and slavery is the lowest of the low. For the record, my bro’s a friggin’ vegetarian and my mom’s halfway there. For them, it has nothing to do with not “murdering” animals. (My brother’s just trying to be interesting). Imagine the horror of coming home to dinner only to find hommus, crackers, and spinach salad. I had to get a job and learn to cook early on to support my habit (which obviously comes from my dad). It’s hard not to convert when you’re surrounded by rabbit-food lovers, but I manage to get in the occasional steak or chicken wing. Sadly, I’ve lost the taste for pork.

Whats all this talk about making people healthy by convincing them to give up meat? Last I checked, eating beef and chicken wasn’t as bad as — let’s say — smoking or drinking! I’ll have to agree with OMFG on this one, siggy. Last I checked, Al Einstein, despite being a genius, was a physicist and not a physician (and a bit loony to boot). Nothing disturbs me more than an institution (organizations, religions, CULTS, etc) dropping the names of great people to herd in the masses and futher their cause. I always imagine wars that have been started “in the name of God.” In the words of Karl Marx, “religion is the opiate of the masses.” Tell some people that this is what Jesus (or Einstein or Ghandi) would do, and they become brainless sheep, eager to follow.

In fact, some scientific studies suggest that it was the human diet (which included various plants and meats) that was the catalyst for human evolution.

I think animals dying ANY way in a slaughterhouse is inhumane. And the comparison of the holocaust of animals and the holocaust of Jews is not to bring the Jew’s down to the level of farm animals. I recently had the whole week off for a mid term break from school (I’m 13) and my dad wanted to take me hunting. I have not been brainwashed by any thing. It is my honest, and my own opinion that humans treat animals terribly…and that we shouldn’t, because they are highly intelligent and I think it is wrong. I know I can’t force my opinion on you, but what do you expect by coming on a site like this?

Obviously to most people humans are more important than animals, but some people form bonds with animals which are just as strong as with humans. For example for an old person, who is alone, with a dog as an only companion- that dog dying could be just as traumatic as a human dying.
And about PETA comparing animal slaughter to the holocaust, they are pointing out how innocent animals are being killed as people just stand by, how races are close to being wiped out. This is the equivalent of a literary simile, a hyperbole even.

at a point in humanity, it was acceptable to eat meat and skin animals for fur, because it was NECESSARY. These animals had lives, and were killed before being skinned alive. We are to the point, we obviously do not need to do this, and we most certainly do not need to breed animals for the sake of our own vanity. I’m not trying to convert people to veganism, but do realize that most meat, ESPECIALLY in the fast food industry, was living on a cattle farm, or a chicken farm. Oh and I don’t care if chickens etc are not allowed to ‘live their lives’ before being my lunch. There chickens, they have almost no brain, no concept of any intellectual process and so I don’t care if they are kept in cages or not allowed to ‘run free’. Once PETA protested a chicken farm because the chickens’ legs (yummy– drum sticks) were so large the chicken’s were tipping over. They said it was inhumane because it wasn’t natural. i will start off this rant of mine by saying that i hate PeTA, i do not have anything against vegetarians or vegans, in fact my girlfriend is a vegan and even she thinks that PeTA is a sick organisation, i am an avid animal lover, yet i also love to eat meat and fish regularly (I come from a fishing town in England where about 20% of all trade comes from fishing, however if PeTA were given its way these hard working fishermen would be put out of jobs)
First of all i need to respond to some of the previous posts, for example one post stated that medical research on rats bears no relevence to humans, as a biomedical research student (and a rat owner) i must say to this person, LEARN YOUR FACTS, rats are actually capable of picking up and carrying many human illnesses (just check out a website about caring for rats). Also there were a few posts previously that talked about farms and how dairy cattle are kept in horrific conditions and then used for meat when they no longer produce meat, i know that (in the UK anyway) that cows bred for meat are of a different species to cattle used for milk, so this idea is ludicrous, and the idea that calves are killed and sold for veal so that we can obtain the milk they require for sustenance is also ludicrous, yes some calves ae used for veal (which even i dont eat) however only a very small percentage of calves born are sold for meat. and as to another post that stated caged hens have their beaks removed, and are given drugs so that they produce eggs is also a bold faced lie (possibly some PeTA propaganda) i have friends who own a poultry farm and this belief is wrong, the chickens are whole and not drug altered in any way, you would know this if you decided to look at a little thing called GOVERNMENT LEGISLATURE!!! it is illegal to cause animals undue distress and harm, hence many of PeTA’s claims about the abusive manner in which KFC and farms treat animals is completely unfounded.
From the point of view of a biologist i must say that eating meat is a very natural and healthy thing, we are genetically omnivores, the definition of such is that we eat meats and plant matter (hence the canine teeth), what i find quite amusing is that on one of PeTA’s propaganda pages (kentuky fried cruelty) was the phrase that “meat reduces blood flow and causes impotency” right next to a picture of Pamela Anderson (*cough* skank) which is true to the extent that fatty foods can cause a build up of cholesterol, what PeTA somehow managed to omitt was that it is not the actual meat that causes this affliction (which can also occur from sugary foods, alcohol, and smoking, because of course Pammy’s never had a cigarrette or a beer). The fact that PeTA so strongly opposes dairy products even though they are essential for development and vital substances.
Now, how about pets…surely no one could oppose me caring for my two little ratty friends, or how about our family dog, who we have looked after and loved for nearly a decade? well apparently PeTA wants to piss on that bonfire aswell. PLEASE PETA TELL ME WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH OUR PETS, are we supposed to turf our beloved pets out on to the streets so they can die of starvation, or in traffic accidents??? im sorry but i dont think that my labrador knows how to hunt, and im pretty sure that my domesticated rats couldn’t survive in a sewer.

AND NOW: for my two main pet peeves about PeTA 1.the use of images of concentration camps and lynchings as a symbolic portrayal of animal cruelty is a dispicable act, for these people to trivialise some of the most horrific acts of the last centuary is in no way ethical, moral or in my eyes even human, and 2. medical research, PeTA say that we should not use any animal tested medical products or condone the use of animal testing for medical research, how about this for compassion, i would happily drown an entire field full of rabbits if it would bring aroud a cure for cancer, after seeing cancer and AIDS destroy familys i would actually giive my own life for a cure, i guarantee no PeTA member would (as a matter of fact Mary Beth Sweetland one of the figure heads of PeTA actually uses insulin which was discovered and produced through testing on dogs f–kING HYPACRITE!!!!)
and to finish off with (I do apologise for the length of this rant) i have a couple of statistics and facts you may like, in the last couple of years PeTA has euthanised nearly 97% of the animals they have taken into their care, PeTA has been linked with key members of the ALF (an animal rights group that advocates violnce, and arson attacks to acieve its goals),and roughly 98% of all medical research depends upon animal testing.

I can appreciate an organization realistic goals like eliminating cruelty to animals as a state of it not being neccicary, but look at the name of PETA, people for the ETHICAL treatment of animals, and by rights humans are animals on this earth to. Is it ethical to deny a thousands of humans medical treatment because it would have to be tested on a few animals first? Is it ethical to deny poor farmers the right to feed their families by hunting? Is it right to deney the hungry food if that food includes meat? and what of the vegitarians? using massive tracts of land for agriculture consumes environmental recources, how much more rainforests will need to be clearcut if all humans become vegan? where will the cure for cancer be then? is that ethical? What about the animals killed by harvesting equipment? PETA’s problem is they lost sight of being realistic a long time ago, when all is said and done they might as well call themselves “people for the genocide of humans, and all omnivores and carnivores”.

i believe that PETA is a government conspiracy to test conformity. Who will conform to these ‘horrifying’ images and ideas and who will not? How extreme must their opinions and ideas become before everyone conforms? And also, what will the non-conformists say?
Besides the basic PETA vs. Anti-PETA arguments, the whole thing is a perfect example of group polaristion. Without confusing everyone with psychological language, group polaristion is basically how far people at each end of the scale (PETA activists and non-PETA activists) will go, to convince the neutral people (the people with no obvious opinion).

My favorite thing about P.E.T.A people is how they can hold an animal from our Zoo, cuddle with it and then turn right around and call me an animal abuser, because we trained our animal to be nice. When really I think they shouldnt be aloud to have animals theirselves… if they put a CAT or a DOG on a vagetarian diet which is very unhealthy for the animal.

Some people here are saying something in the lines of “Other animals kill animals so they can survive, and PETA thinks that it’s fine. Why can’t we kill animals to eat/survive?”. Well, PETA doesn’t say that per se. Humans have always killed animals for food, and we’re still “allowed” to do that. It’s just that we have a choice (because of our technology) between killing them savagely like we did many years ago, or to use some form of method that kills the animal without pain. We don’t need to gut cows while they’re still alive so they can bleed to death etc. Some slaughterhouses still perform these or similarly painfully technics, just because it’s easier that way. No, not ALL slaughterhouses, but some, and those are the ones PETA are trying to do something about. Why should we torture animals when we have a choice not to?
And then there’s the whole fur-issue. PETA is against killing animals just for their fur, not JUST because we can make our clothes without killing animals (again because of our technology), but because a lot of animals are treated cruelly, living their entire lives in small cages, just so they can end up around some womans neck. Again, not ALL animals are treated badly during this, but a lot are (being locked up behind bars for no important reason their whole lives might be cruel enough though). We don’t even use fur because it’s better than synthetic clothing(and I doubt that it is), we use them because they are, indeed, beautiful clothing. But why not wear synthetic fur? With our technology they look EXACTLY the same? Because we can doesn’t mean that we should.
I like the IDEA of PETA. I like most of what they stand for (They are against animal research though. Even if we knew it would help to cure AIDS, they still wouldn’t allow it. I’m not sure what I think about this, it’s a difficult ethical question. Would you kill one person to save another? Probably not. How many people would it take to save if you had to kill someone? What about killing an animal to save one man, would that be any different than killing a person? What if it would save hundred, thousand, tens of thousands of humans? Where does the line go? No animal research have a 100% chance of success either, but that is how research works. Also, releasing caged animals are not a good idea, since animals who have lived their lives behind bars have no way of surviving in the wilderness). As I said, the idea of an organization working for animal rights is a good one, but PETA isn’t the “best one”, mostly because of all the extremist PETA members. Their leader is perhaps one of the biggest “extremists”. She means well, but some of the things she does are wrong and stupid, and the big multi million dollar companies against PETA know how to exploit this, and it makes PETA look bad. But without them, a lot of animals would be a lot worse off. This is something that no one can disagree on.
I’m not a vegetarian, I’m not a PETA member, but I’m not against PETA either. I’d like to add that half of the posts here are ridiculously offensive and down right idiotic, mostly because a lot of the people here hate PETA “just because” PETA are “against” eating meat, or “just because” of some of the stupid things that the media shows us about PETA. You are allowed to simply disagree, calling yourself a “PETA hater” or calling someone a “PETA fag” is downright childish behavior.

For example, they lie and they try to push morals that don’t work, like getting people to drink beer instead of milk. WTF? WOW….this post has been going for like five years, anyways i live in a rural area where farming and livestock is how many make a living. There are large farms and some of the smaller variety. The constant throughout these farms is the absence of animal cruelty. I’m sure peta supporters will say the living conditions of these dairy farms are “inhumane”, but these are animals not humans. They are dubbed inhumane because we are aware of what is achievable,We certainately could not live in these conditions while fully knowing what is readily available to us, be that is it may, cows graze freely in the days and spend thier nights in the warmth of a barn, this is what they know and are accustomed to. My main point was to address some of the unbelievable comments and ad campaigns that peta organizes. Dan Matthews once stated he was happy steve irwin was dead, and that the greatest homosexual was the murderer of versace because it forced him to stop wearing fur. How a man can say things of this nature and still remain powerful and carry the support of members in society is beyond me. I do think that some of thier core beliefs are admirable (animal mistreatment as i am sure it exists outside my experinces) but the methodology is all wrong and based on propanganda and shock media.
Sorry I left out another comment I once heard from Dan Matthews. He once was on a show in virginia, and prior to his slotted time on the show, meat was being prepared, when he came on he stated that the smell reminded him of 9/11. Is that not just an insane comment to make, trivializing a horrible day in our history by comparing the smell of filet mignon to that of his fellow countrymen who perrished that day.
I’m a former vegetarian and someone who is against the killing of animals for vanity, but PETA are a bunch of morons. Do you really think people will listen to you if you act with the near the same viciousness you’re so against? And to all you vegetarians out there who think you’re ‘saving the animals’ think again. What the hell do you think would happen to all the cows, chickens, pigs etc if everyone turned vegetarian? These animals are bred for FOOD, so what happens when no one wants them anymore? Do you seriously think farmers can afford to keep cows for pets? These animals will disappear just like they are disappearing from the fields in the UK. They are already culling thousands of HEALTHY CALVES here. If you care about animal welfare, buy from an organic farm where animals are treated well until they are killed for meat. I’m not going to lie; I’m not a vegetarian, I respect what peta does, but I CANNOT stand it when people push their beliefs on me. Just because people have a choice does not mean we have to choose a certain decision. It’s a God given right to eat meat. I understand people beat animals for no reason. This is a terrible crime, however killing for meat is completely fine in my books. If you don’t like it, then that’s your lifestyle. Don’t change other people due to your beliefs. Also, most peta members have never worked on a farm, or personally been exposed to animal killing a day in their life. If they were, then they might back up their statements a bit better. Meat is MUCH cheaper to buy than fresh fruits and vegetables. Not everyone can afford to live healthy. I know a few vegetarians who have protein deficiency because they don’t eat meat. What about plants? If we start consuming nothing but vegetables, then all of our crops will become over harvested. There are far too many people on this earth to eat nothing but vegetables. We would all starve. In India, most are starving because almost all of them are opposed to eating meat. Now where would your cause be? Saving Humans.
Animal testing is horrible, but necessary. We have stopped thousands of diseases thanks to new strides in technology. I’m sure that we would all feel a little worse if we practiced these new technologies on people.
Also, before you tell me that they’re looking for humane killing conditions, take a look at your experience. How do you know they suffer painful deaths? You have never personally died in such a way. Animals can’t tell us how that felt. People tolerate terrible lives waiting for death because it’s their CHOICE. They believe in a fantastic afterlife for their suffering. How do you know that animals aren’t thinking like THAT? God put us in charge of earth. We cycle. animals eat plants, animals eat animals. It’s the way things work.

When I was a kid, I went to my current town’s local food store and noticed that there were simply too many lobsters in the tank at the seafood counter. I was only a little kid and generally concerned, so I wrote PETA describing the situation. I included my age in the letter.
You want to know what they told me to do? That I should try to talk to the store manager and ask him to set them free in the ocean. Then, if that didn’t work, I should try to get some money together to buy all the lobsters and set them free in the ocean myself.

Having recently visited the Peta forums to start a discussion regarding their shock tactics simply becoming offensive instead of effective (I am a vegan, animal rights activist) I was attacked consistently with foul language called names like skank and b17ch and told to get off of “their” boards. Mainly by an especially rude group of females that do nothing but post there constantly, searching for anyone that may have a differing opinion from them. They even attacked their own members who came to my defense and agreed with me that some of their tactics go way too far in exploiting women, using news stories of murdered people to their advantage, dressing as the KKK offending PoC, and they constantly troll boards that don’t agree with them.
They are almost frightening in their mindless stupidity and following the Newkirk propaganda line. You can envision the lot of them marching along dressed as the KKK going Heil Newkirk. And to think I was a member once! In one of their idiot stunts they made 2 of their interns lie outside on the ground wrapped in cellophane, covered in fake blood to make a point to some meat co.’s headquarters. In the broiling sun and when one of the interns began to get ill, she was forced to lie there another half hour. That’s sick.

I used to defend them, but after researching some of their campaigns over the last few days I realize why they turn people off so much. They would be so much more effective if they weren’t so offensive. I hate peta now and plan to when I do my animal rights activities, wear an I Hate Peta shirt. As long as people know you are NOT with Peta they are more willing to listen.
They also have killed over 14,ooo cats and dogs in their facilities because they don’t even try to find homes for them. They are supposed to keep them for at least 5 days but often kill them as soon as they get them in their vans. Hey I have been raiseing animals for 10 years I have heard PETA talk about all this crap many times. I hate to tell you this but I have seen first hand what happens to animals when the are left to themselves. The chickens that are caged up are caged up for a reason why because they will kill each other. Most Important thing to grasp about PETA is they go for a cause which is only good for them, they need to understand that they should’nt be interfering too much with other peoples lives, i love animals, i eat meat, i could’nt look after a cow and then kill it when its in pain from aging naturally into old age, but i could easily get someone else to do it for me and then have a burger at the end of it, because i know if peta wants their suffering to stop then that would be the right thing to do.
I agree there are farms which mistreat their cattle like they say they do, but that doesnt mean all farms do that, only the vast minority.
