The Big Picture blog is probably my favorite new blog of the year and it’s Hurricane Ike aftermath photos are downright amazing (and depressing).
TheDren had to evacuate, and while things are slowly returning to normal for him, things will never quite be the same.

Thanks for the mention. For anyone watching this on the national news, it is as bad as they say, but only in isolated areas. Galveston, Bolivar and Surfside are all pretty much wiped out. In areas that are not near the cost, like where I live, the destruction is very random. For example, on my street there are 7 homes. I have by far the most extensive damage. 2 other houses have roof damage, 3 have fences down, another house had their swing set vanish.
I have some photos to add to the blog, but don’t have enough bandwidth on this air card to try to upload them.
This is much worse than Hurricane Alicia was 25 years ago, yet it was a weaker storm. Very odd thing indeed.

I actually consider myself quite lucky, there are a lot of folks a lot worse off than my family.
