Just goes to show you that not only is PBS a bit too conservative and that past online acting gigs can come back to bite you in the butt.
Many years ago, there were a couple of hilarious public-service-style videos and parody testimonials at technicalvirgin.com. Basically, the premise behind the site was that you could still fool around and still technically be a virgin.
Melanie Martinez, one of the girls in one of the videos (which you can see below), got a gig hosting a preschool-targeted show on PBS’s Sprout network. PBS recently became aware of the videos, and decided to can her.
Why PBS would ever think that a preschooler would know about these videos is beyond me, and Technical Virgin now has a link to a petition you can sign to bring her back.

Don’t know if it’s due the being conservative. Something like that is just waiting to bite you in the ass. Better for PBS to can her now, then to wait until it hits the news and they get a bunch of conservative parents bashing down the doors.

That is some specious logic there, Worm. What kind of a cherry are you? “…conservative parents bashing down the doors” should scare no one. These are the people that conflict should be invited from. They have absolutely no pot to pi$$ in at this point, as far as support from the vastly moderate population in this country goes. That’s right: a VASTLY MODERATE POPULATION is what inhabits this country. And these good people, counting myself among them, will no longer listen to the idiocy of these oxycontin-eating, gonnareah-spreading, misinformed, air-sucking backwoods southerners. They have lost what they barely had, and they, the feckless GOP, along with the seriously hapless Democratic party, will without a doubt be left sitting on the sidelines after the next presidential election (barring an extraordinarily comprehensive fraud, which would lead to a massive, military- supported and very bloody 2nd American revolution). So please, do not advocate a fear of the bomb-breeders, for they treasure their well-being too dearly. They would never put their children in a parentless situation, and thus would never seriously risk their asses to go to bat over a $hitty little video like this one. So grow some balls, Aaron. Stop giving out wuss advice, you stupid little boy!
Seems to me that unless you’ve done something illegal, it shouldn’t bite you anywhere.
And if there was ever any network that I would have expected to actually take a stand AGAINST the ultra-conserves, it would be PBS.
Now they’re just BS.
She didn’t do anything wrong. She’s an actress, did a few little comedy bits, and now corporate jack-asses with no real backbone backed down from a battle that they don’t even know if they really ever would have had to fight! I mean, these cowards never even waited to SEE if they had to stand up for something! They caved before anyone even confronted them.
It’s pathetic, frankly. And an embarrassment.
PBS should grow up. People have pasts. I don’t know where they’re going to find a replacement with NO past. Good luck with that. We won’t be watching.
