Did Anybody Else Get The Jim Smolich Motors Spam?

I was looking through an old Yahoo! mail account that I keep around just for kicks and in case I ever need it, and found that I had been spammed by a local car dealership. That link is the Web-based version of the spam, that has a functional video and form, but the e-mail I got was actually just a bunch of large GIF files (as you can’t really easily embed videos and forms in email and expect it to work) pulled from this page and this page (just change the 01.gif to 02, 03, etc.. .gif).

I can’t honestly remember being outright spammed by a local business before (except for bendnights.com, who tried to spam the COBlogs mailing list, though they do run a good site), has anybody else? Most of the mail I get from local businesses are from folks I’ve dealt with or I have requested information from before, but I’ve never been to Jim Smolich in my life (and now probably won’t even more because of this kind of crap).

I hate even mentioning them, as it’ll get them more publicity, but I’d rather it be known that they spam.

Yeah, me too! How did they get a “local” email list to spam? How annoying!

Have a google for e-mail marketing and the like and see all the different e-mail lists you can buy. Some are based on demogrpahics, some on geography and others on who knows what!
For anyone who received this and didn’t have a prior business rtelationship with these people, you may want to check out http://www.spamlaws.com/state/or.shtml

Well I didn’t get spamed, I got scamed!!!
I’ve had a lot of questionable dealings with car dealerships but this one takes the cake!!! I bought my son his first car and was told the car “had new paint” well after just a few months the paint started turning gray. Well after 2 months of passing the buck I now find out that only 2 places were painted on the car and now that 6 months have passed they will not do anything about it. I was told by the Salesman TJ, that because he said “New Paint, not whole new paint” that it is my problem!!! Now he even denies saying that!!! So it is my opinion that these people do not stand behind what they sell… Buyer beware!!!!!

I have purchased not one, but two Jeeps from Smolich Motors. Both of my purchase experiences were very pleasant and I was given no pressure from the sales department at all. My salesman was very knowledgeable on every line of vehicle I was considering. He was very patient with my decision making and also gave me a tour of the dealership and introduced me to the staff there. So, when I had to bring my vehicle in for a recall a few weeks later, I knew exactly where the service department was. Their waiting room is very inviting and my car got a free bath and vacuum. And, they also offer rental vehicles if needed. It’s a one stop shop and I was able to address all my needs in one visit. Talk about putting customers first! I will buy all of my vehicles from Smolich Motors from here on out.
P.S. In response to Sheila, when purchasing a used vehicle you are able to ask the seller for a copy of the vehicle’s history. And paint on a vehicle, it’s semi easy to tell if the paint is new if the vehicle has scratches/dings/marks. Doing research can prevent things of this sort.
