I liked the way you wrote that blog, Simone. If the popping of the dot com bubble was such a hard hit for the company, why did he go on to move the the new complex?

The reason why O’Reilly ended up moving into the new campus was simple: To save face. You see – Tim had been battling the city and a citizen group for years in court for permission to actually build on that site (the last apple orchard within city limits in a strongly agricultural town). He eventually did win, ripped out most of the orchard, and popped down 3 huge buildings.
So aside from milllions of dollars, he had his whole honor and respect within a tight-knit community invested into the project. For him *not* to move in after all that, was unthinkable.
Of course the buildings have been eeriely empty since – mostly because the projected employee expansion never happened, and due to the bad rep the location had in the community, nobody wanted to rent any of the buildings.
Tim naturally still has his 6-acre farm he can hermit in …
