In related experiences, it makes no matter if it is a signature or a picture for cashiers to compare. I was shopping with a girlfriend in Portland, she had a number of items to purchase and the Banana Republic had a long line of customers. She really needed to go to the ladies room so I offered to stand in line for her–she provided her card in case the line started moving faster. Which of course it promptly did. They rang up her purchases, I handed them her card, they handed me a receipt which I signed with my name. They handed me a bag of her purchases and I went on my way. As to the photo on the Visa, my friend is African American. I am Norwegian. The only thing our appearances have in common is that we are both women.
