He’s probably in heaven with Ewell Gibbons.
On the other hand they did not state what caused the injuries of the two wearing seat belts. I have known of two occasions where those wearing seat belts recieved more severe injuries than those who were not in the same vehicle. On the other point I fully agree that it should be each person’s right to decide for themselves whether they should wear seat belts or do many other things now forced by government. As long as it affects no others they should have that freedom. My son said to me one day, “Dad I think there should be no law against a man being stupid. Some can’t help it.”
“As long as it affects no others they should have that freedom.”
As a taxpayer (and a Paramedic), I can say that a lot of people injured do affect others financially. The cost of their care and medical treatments affects not only taxpayers (The Oregon Health Plan), but insurance holders.
Hoby. I really don’t want to take it too far down the seatbelt v. non-seatbelt route, but the argument that wearing seatbelts can be more harmful than not is ridiculous.
Eric: So does obesity; should we then dictate the food they eat and the exercise they are required to perform.
John: I am new at this form of communication and did not realize that I should have come back here to reply to your message. I did not intend to imply that seat belts cause more damage than they prevent. My point is that it should be each one’s freedom to decide for themselves. I did state two cases which I knew of personally that caused those two to stop using their seat belts. They made no attempt to convince others not to use their seat belt. Their life experience taught them not to use it. I still use mine all the time.
