Subversive Cross Stitch

I might take up cross stitching just for this purpose.

my mother was a pioneer?
…in the late 70s, my mother was barred from showing her work in an annual stitchery guild show… the guild said it was “too political”… so she painstakingly put her frustration into a new piece… in baby-blue 6-inch beautiful flowery letters she created a lovely response: “Fuck You”
it’s a rather beautiful piece, as it requires a double-take to read past the exquisite stiching… I think it will look swell hung above the couch…

I sense a new revival of this traditional fiber art.

hi
I was really intersted in what you had to say because I’m really interested in textile subversive art. I think of myself as a textile artist. Think there should definetly be a revival in it, the piece created by your mother is amazing I dont suppose there is any chance that you would have a picture of it. I would so love to see a photo of it.
Thanks
Becky
