From what I understand (but sometimes I MISunderstand) this trip is funded by federal dollars. If I am wrong, I will stand corrected gracefully. However, I have a local friend who is serving with the Oregon National Guard. Although he is from Bend, he is with the “B” Co. 52nd Engineering Battalion out of Salem, “B-52” for short, as I understand it. I read that Kulongowski and the other governors are visiting Baghdad, but I know we have National Guard Oregonians serving up near Mosul. I wonder if our Governor will have a chance to visit with any Oregon National Guard units during his short visit.
Oh, he better see the Ore. National Guard folks, or I’ll even be more pissed off about this whole thing — federal funds or not. If I were him, I’d say “Give our state the funds, screw the trip.”
