I just have to quote this funny story:
The federal government’s do-not-call list has saved millions of Americans from pesky telemarketers, but Tom Mabe had to take it one step further.
The comedian and jingle-writer goes on the offensive on “A Wake-Up Call for Telemarketers,” his new CD being released Tuesday. Last year, Mabe traveled to Washington, D.C., for a telemarketers convention and stayed at their hotel. He waited until the wee hours of the morning ? and started dialing.
It goes on with some of his funny conversations. It looks like the CDs are available on Amazon for $14.99. That could be a funny one.

I found a way to stop telemarketers in their tracks. It is an audio call screener called SelfAnnounce. It requires callers to announce themselves over a loud speaker so you don’t have to get up to answer the phone if you don’t want to. Haven’t had one commercial interruption since I got it. Read all about it at SelfAnnounce(dot)com.
I just tell the telemarketer that someone in my household is really interested in speaking to them and then put the phone down on the desk. Easy for me, results in decreased deficiency for them and gives the poor wage-slave a brief respite from talking to people.
you can read about my technique here: http://apocalypsewatch.blogspot.com/2005/02/taking-action-1-telemarketing.html
pass the word!
use the disconnected audio clip, as your answering machine greeting. includes the 3 tones that register with telemarketing s/w. just don’t forget to tell family&friends.
i’ve used for past 3 weeks and calls have diminished significantly.
