…they’d look something like this (the web would be a better place if they did).
I Never Had Any Sons…
…so I never got to help anybody build a Pinewood Derby car like I built in Cub Scouts. But my older daughter is in a church group that is going to be having Pinewood Derby-esque car races, so now I can use the power of the ‘net to build stupidly fast cars. Holy crap is there a ton of information out there — there are some really serious dudes when it comes to this kind of stuff. Painting it like a school bus like I did in Cub Scouts (it nearly won) is looking more and more like a good idea.
Thank You PC Inspector
I inadvertently formatted the card that was in a digital camera here at work, thinking I had already copied the images off the camera. I hadn’t. Crap.
Thankfully the copy of PC Inspector I’ve had sitting on my hard drive for quite a while was able to recover every single one of the images. So if you’ve ever been a dumba** like me, get this program now (it’s freeware) as you never know when you might need it.
No, I’m not getting paid to post this, I just know it saved my butt.
No Home Is Complete…
…without your very own indoor shooting range.
Thanks, but I’d rather have the kickass arcade.
Maddening Game For Evening
Just spin the circle. Sounds simple, right? Easier than it sounds.
I’d Never Have A Use For One
But I so totally want this used Canon Super Telephoto 1200mm lens that B&H is selling. Nevermind that’s nearly $100,000 and I don’t have a camera worth even mounting it on.
As for image quality, even wide open it’s quite lovely. Stopped down to f/8 and f/11 it’s actually quite remarkable. How remarkable? From midtown Manhattan we were able to read the street signs on the corner of JFK Boulevard East and 43rd St. in Weehawkin New Jersey when viewing image files at pixel resolution.
Frozen Grand Central
No, this has nothing to do with the cold, this is another one of Improv Everywhere experiments where over 200 Improv Everywhere Agents froze in place at the exact same second for five minutes in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station. Full story here, video below:
KTVZ.com Adds Commenting Feature
It looks like it’s only on a few stories (like the domestic partnership story) and after chatting with the folks there, it’s moderated, but lightly — mostly just to keep the crazy crap that belongs on R&R off of there (which is a good thing, as there are some damn crazy people on R&R).
The Source has had commenting on their articles (as have most local blogs) for a while, but it’s nice to see some other larger media outlets do it. I don’t expect to see it on the Bulletin anytime soon, though they are doing a bunch of online experiments like their Podcasts and their Near/Far local band site, so maybe we will see something there sometime. Nothing as of yet over on the KOHD site that was supposed to be a communitiy interactive site — we’ll see how long it takes to get to that point.
“The System Doesn’t Work” News For The Day
Few stories of varying ages:
- A speeding motorist who killed a teenage cyclist is suing the boy’s parents over damage to his luxury car, the government says. Full story.
- Guess who’s facing 21 years in prison: the drunk , rich, white kid or the sober, poor, black guy? I’ll let you guess.
- A Wisconsin man was wrongfully put in jail for eight months, lost his job, his credit, most of his money, and the state is only going to give him $5000 for his trouble. Needless to say, he wants more.
