Yes, I know the comments are slow, and posting comments is slow as heck. I’m looking into it, and have upgraded SimpleComments to version 1.1 and that should (in theory) help. I’m working on some other bottlenecks, but the Simplecomments upgrade has helped a bit.

I’m in the process of moving the various domains I’m in charge of to a new server that will give me better control of things, so I won’t be posting until Saturday. Just an FYI.

Update: UtterlyBoring.com/net is setup with it’s own account on a new server (instead of daisy-chained off my orty.com account), DNS has been setup properly and propogated.

JakeOrtman.com has been setup with it’s own account as well, and there should be something at that domain soon.

After beating up my poor server with a pile of rebuilds, template tweaks, etc…, UtterlyBoring.com is finally a reality. JakeOrtman.com will be the location of my personal site here soon, but not for a bit.

I’m still working out the bugs here, and plowing through some future ideas, but it’s getting there. Meanwhile, you can contact us by some various methods, and I encourage you to sign up for my daily update e-mail, as well.

I’m in the process of moving the entire site over to PHP, and to get it onto a new template that will be easier on the eyes, easier to make changes to, and easier to download and navigate. To see how things are going so far, click here. I’m in the process of converting the archives, etc… to the new format, and make everything PHP and CSS friendly, and making two seperate sites for things: all personal stuff (resume, portfolio, etc…) will be posted at JakeOrtman.com. This blog, which will be still updated daily, will be posted at UtterlyBoring.com (or utterlyboring.com/blog for those of you that have it bookmarked already). One of these days I’ll get a functional hosting service at orty.com — just need a few more hours (read: days) on my hand.

If you’re into ego-surfing, go pick a GoogleFight with somebody, and see how you rate. Between Gregg and I, he wiped me all over the floor, 1490 to 7780.

HOWEVER…if you go over to Google, and the put queries in quotes (as the above site doesn’t, meaning anything with “Gregg” or “Stearns” would show up), I beat Gregg 828 to 112.

One of the neat new features of MovableType 2.6 is the ability for plug-in authors to write text formatting plug-ins. Ken at Breaking Windows told me about Textile, which I could see as being incredibly useful. However, I’m having a ball playing with MovableJive, which will translate your entries in to a whole pile of fun translations (like Swedish Chef, Cockney, Texas Drawl, etc…). Originally, Jake Ortman created a blog at jake.orty.com as a personal site that would host his resume, portfolio, and the like, but it’s slowly blossomed into something bigger, and he’s decided to split things up a bit — resume, portfolio and all that fun stuff, over at his personal site while the blog that everybody has come to love will be posted at UtterlyBoring.com. The site you see now is a result of that split.

UtterlyBoring.com is produced by Jake Ortman (e-mail, resume), a 32-year-old dad, percussionist, wanna-be Web programmer/designer, sysadmin, IT consultant and jack-of-all-trades computer geek, living in Bend, Oregon. He created this so that his expensive journalism and technology degree isn’t getting totally wasted. In addition to editing this site in his free time, he is the IT Director and graphic designer at both Sunray and Discover Sunriver. He has LinkedIn and Facebook profiles if you’re trying to stalk him. He will not be posting on Twitter.

In case anybody cares, you can now vote if this site is hot or not. And I’ve added a couple small ads down the right-hand column.
