Lousy Weather

It’s not lousy here in Bend — quite nice, actually — but there are some places in Minnesota that are just really nasty hitting minus 54 degrees. Just check out this video of cars just sliding down a hill, with their owners desperately holding onto their car handles or bailing out at the last minute.

Incredible Before And After Tsunami Photos

If you want to see the damage this thing really caused, check out these before and after photos.

And remember, if you want to dontate to relief efforts this month, President Bush on Friday signed legislation allowing people who donate to Indian Ocean tsunami relief to claim deductions on their 2004 tax returns, if they write the check before the end of the month. Full story on that.

Oddball Taxidermy

Be sure to check out the photo gallery here.

MART– the Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists — is a veritable rout dedicated to a shared mandate to advocate the showmanship of oddities; espouse the belief in natural adaptation and mutation; and encourage the desire to create displays of curiousity.

67 Years Old And Pregnant

Not only that, but pregnant with twins.

Romanian doctors say a 67-year-old woman is seven months pregnant with twin girls after fertility treatment.

If the pregnancy comes to full term, it is believed that Adriana Iliescu, an author and academic, will become the oldest recorded mother.

One Impressive RV

I’m sure you could take this monster just about anywhere.

Mmmm….cookies….

These sound like good cookies.

ASHLAND, Ohio — Holiday cookies that may contain pieces of glass have been recalled by Archway Cookies.

The company said in a statement that it was voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of its 10-ounce Archway Holiday Cashew Nougat Cookies sold nationwide.

The company is investigating how the glass got in the cookies, which are made in Ashland and at another plant in Indiana.

That Explains The Headaches

I can’t believe you could have a nail stuck in your head for four years and not know it was there.

Update: OK, apparently link doesn’t work anymore. You can get it via Google’s cache here. Or download a copy of the image here.

A $200 Christmas Tree

That’s how much it’ll cost you in Hawaii. Meanwhile, I think my $5 yanked-from-the-forest tree works just fine for me.

20 Amazing Facts About Voting in the USA

I’ve seen this forward going around lately, but I managed to find a copy with some cited URLs. And remember: I’m posting this to start debate (I didn’t write this, I don’t know how did), so don’t post comments saying I’m an idiot, as they will be deleted.

2. There is no federal agency with regulatory authority or oversight of the U.S. voting machine industry. Link and Link

5. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel used to be chairman of ES&S. He became a senator based on votes counted by ES&S machines. Link and Link.

10. Diebold also makes ATMs, checkout scanners, and ticket machines, all of which log each transaction and can generate a paper trail. Link and Link.

16. California banned the use of Diebold machines because the security was so bad. Despite Diebold’s claims that the audit logs could not be hacked, a chimpanzee was able to do it! (See the movie here). Link and Link.

17. 30% of all U.S. votes are carried out on unverifiable touch screen voting machines with no paper trail. Link.

“Mommy, look what we found!”

Some toddlers were playing around in their backyard, found something they couldn’t identify. Neither could mommy. The police could were could, and they could identify it, however: It was an un-exploded WWII-era anti-tank rocket.
