If you’re going to crap in the woods, bring a bucket

Why I’m reading this in the Detroit Free Press and not in some local news outlets is beyond me (it was AP, so it was probably written by somebody locally anyway). But apparently the folks up in Maupin are getting mad that too many people are just taking dumps in the woods without cleaning up after themselves, and could now be fined up to $500 for the violation. Full Story. Maupin is a very small town about an hour or so north of Bend, and is a very popular place for white-water rafting.

What does your state have for sale?

Check out this state-by-state listing. Oregon, for example, sells surplus, seized and recovered vehicles on eBay. Heck, for that matter, most of the stuff Oregon has for sale is on eBay.

But here’s what I wonder: Where’s all this money go? They’re making a bunch of money on sales for all these things, so I wonder which State department gets the revenue from this stuff? Not only that, but whose job is it to post all these stuff on eBay? I want his job! 🙂

It’s nearly May, and there is 4 inches of snow on the ground

OK, this is just sick. I woke up this morning, and drove to work and there was 4-inches of snow on the side of the road. Amazing. When is Spring going to get here?

Spring Break is over, studs are off, so the snow’s back

Typical Central Oregon weather. The date that everybody in the state had to have their studded tires off is April 1st. I had mine off on the date. I woke up this morning, and drive to work on 4-inches of the wet, sticky, white stuff on the road. Cars in ditches all over the place, and I slid around a few times, too. The snow is still on the roads, and the mountains got a bunch of snow over night. Wish I was still a skiier.

Ex-sheriff embezzler still due full retirement pay

This just goes to show you how messed up Oregon’s government is, and it’s no wonder we’re broke. Former Deschutes County sheriff Greg Brown was convicted a few months ago and will serve a 33-month federal prison term for embezzlement. He stole about $250,000 from the people of Central Oregon. And he’s still eligible for public employee retirement benefits (or PERS for you folks within Oregon).

The best little whorehouse in Central Oregon

Bend is either becoming much bigger, or much smaller, as you don’t generally see these kinds of places in medium-size cities. Rumor has it that a little hot tub rental and lingerie modeling place that’s about 3 miles from my house (right next door to the Black Horse Saloon) is doing more favors than just showing off the wares, but are doing favors — for the right price. The person who told me this knows a guy who goes there quite a bit. His reason? His girlfriend died in a wreck. I can understand his depression, but going there to get rid of your sorrows might not be the best idea.

Only in Central Oregon

Would somebody pay a ton of money to make a resort out this land. And they’ll have a golf course, I’m sure, further sucking up what water we have left. We already have nearly 30 18-hole courses in the county, but we have less people in the county than Eugene has in its city limits. But I guess that’s what I get for living and working in a tourism-driven area.

What a busy day — yet a really sad one, too

A co-worker of mine left a message with our company answering service that she wouldn’t be in to work today, but left no details. Then somebody else called in sick. It made today a really busy day because we were already understaffed, but it made it even worse when I found why the co-worker wasn’t going to be in today (or for the forseeable future, for that matter): her roommate died in a car crash yesterday, and her passenger was injured as well.

Gotta be careful on that pass, folks. Even if you’re driving 25-mph, the ice will still throw you. I know they were driving safe, but sometimes that ice will come out of nowhere (especially on that pass), and it’s sad that it happened. May she rest in peace.
