Google Hacks of a Different Sort

You may have heard of the Google Hacks Book (which is on my “To Buy Whenever I Get The Cash” list), but one of the real strengths (and scary things) about Google is its ability to dig up information on passwords, usernames, and vulnerabilities that idiots have left open and online.

Bots, Blogs, and News Aggregators

Marcus Zillman is offering his 20-page PDF Whitepaper on bots, blogs, and aggregators free of charge. While most of the information there is nothing most folks that know anything about this stuff wouldn’t already know about, but it is handy to have it in one PDF file. Link via Research Buzz.

There Are Some Serious Geeks At Playboy

Apparently there’s an Open Source CPAN Mirror on Playboy.com, as well as an Apache, FreeBSD, and Fedora mirrors. Link via Waxy.

I’m Using A Goat For a Body Shield

Next time I’m in trouble I’m going to use a goat for a shield, as the little buggers seem to be able to shrug off stun gun attacks.

MTV is The Root Of All Evil

A well-done rant about how MTV has completely destroyed our intelligence, our attention span, our communication abilities, and, most of all our patience.

Do We Need to Deep Six The Mac?

An interesting proposal. There are some great arguments here, and I for one would love to see OSX running on a PC, or the ability to run another OS on Mac parts. Link from Ken.

Fark Sells Its Front Page Links — Does Anybody Care?

I’d probably disclaimer the thing with something that said “(sponsor)” like Brian does on his links. But if you ever thought Fark was an example of journalistic integrity, you’ve got another thing coming. Link via Waxy.

How many different video games has Nintendo’s Mario appeared in?

About 77, it would appear. I think the most interesting thing about that tid-bit is that Mario was named as a tribute to Mario Segali, the Italian landlord of the Nintendo of America building in New York.

Need A Place to Park Your RV?

Just find yourself a local Wal-Mart. Campgrounds hate it, but for years, Wal-Mart has allowed RVs to park in their lots for free. Some folks in the Bay Area want to stop the practice but since a new Wal-Mart Supercenter opens every 1.65 days, I don’t think anybody will have to worry about finding a place to park.

Now That’s Art

Each of Jason Kronenwald’s portraits are made entirely from chewed bubblegum on a plywood backing; no paint or dye is used. The stuff is fairly impressive.
