OK, with Pentium 4 speeds topping out at 3.0ghz for the moment, you know somebody would try to overclock it. With a bit of extreme cooling, the folks at [H]ard|OCP were able to clock the processor up to 4.44ghz and run it stable. Farging amazing. Overkill, but amazing.

FreeRealty project looking for developers
If you know PHP and MySQL, and have way too much time on your hands, the FreeRealty project could always use your help. It’s a project that I helped to start and develop, and it’s the software that powers the back-end of Sunray’s web site. It’s a fork from the 2.6 version of OpenRealty that is no longer in development and we’re trying to revive the project, fixing bugs, adding features, etc.. . So if you know a thing or two, join us!
Gregg’s Case Mod
Ok, here’s the 100% completed case modification.
I have an Antec SLK2600AMB, but I wish I’d gone with a mid-tower.
FrozenCPU.com didn’t ship a gasket with my window kit, so I have a big gaping hole with moderately sharp metal edges right now. But they did send one, which should be here in a couple days. They were skeptical, but happy to send another, and their shipping time is excellent.
Final decision on case mod: Next time I’ll buy a pre-windowed case.
nVidia FX card

Where the hell is my Web Site?
A great three-part series on The Register that discusses the flaws with ICANN‘s management of the domain name system, as well as problems with the system as a whole. Good read.
Windows XP – Power Management Fix?
Ok, my new PC has an issue, and usually won’t actually reboot when I tell it to restart.
It gets right to the part…all drives stopped, etc…and then hangs.
Well, my friend Corey found this article: http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm
Basically, XP doesn’t always detect the BIOS correctly, and may set standard PC power options, instead of Advanced settings. This will cause problems with the OS rebooting the machine.
The solution…hit F5 when you install XP, when it says to hit F6 for SCSII drivers. F5 opens a setup for the BIOS power management. The link above explains how to see if XP did it right when you installed. If it didn’t…you have to reinstall.
(Luckily….my XP flamed out and I just installed last night, so I’m not totally screwed if I have to install yet again today.)
WinDriver Updates *might* hellp get rid of BSODs
If you are having Blue-Screens-of-Death in Windows 2000 that you think might be driver related, you might want to check out this page. WinDriver is used as the basis for quite a few hardware drivers, and the newest version of Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3) doesn’t always play nice with it.
If you ever need to duplicate Windows 2000 on a pile of machines…
…then this is the tutorial you need. I’m actually going to have to persue this fairly soon, as we’re thinking about upgrading all these machines here at the office to Win 2K (they’re Win NT 4.0 right now) and it would save me a TON of trouble to mass-produce this.
Windows Tips Directory
This has to be one of the best places for windows from Windows 95 all up to Windows .Net and all the Office products and MSIE versions in between. Check it out!
Central Opt-Out Database
A concept that will only work if a ton of people sign on and the bulk e-mail senders play nice, but a good idea, nonetheless. From the site:
The Central Opt-Out Database was designed to give end users a central place to opt-out of unsolicited e-mail distribution lists. We provide e-mail distributors with a list of unreversable e-mail address fingerprints in MD5 format. They can then compare this list to their own e-mail lists and remove matching addresses. This results in less unwanted e-mail for registered users, and less complaints for e-mail distributors. Participation is voluntary on all sides, and it is our sincere hope that e-mail distributors will see the value of removing from their lists those people who have specifically said they do not want to receive unsolicited bulk e-mail.
I just put on about 20 e-mail addresses. And some one has already created a comparison script for e-mail senders.
