Windows XP – Power Management Fix?

Ok, my new PC has an issue, and usually won’t actually reboot when I tell it to restart.

It gets right to the part…all drives stopped, etc…and then hangs.

Well, my friend Corey found this article: http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm

Basically, XP doesn’t always detect the BIOS correctly, and may set standard PC power options, instead of Advanced settings. This will cause problems with the OS rebooting the machine.

The solution…hit F5 when you install XP, when it says to hit F6 for SCSII drivers. F5 opens a setup for the BIOS power management. The link above explains how to see if XP did it right when you installed. If it didn’t…you have to reinstall.

(Luckily….my XP flamed out and I just installed last night, so I’m not totally screwed if I have to install yet again today.)
