Flash Timekiller For The Day

How good are you at directing traffic? I actually have work to do today, so I quit early in the game before I got addicted. How’d you do?

I’m A Flickr Pro User

Thanks to Flickr’s gift giving spree and Will‘s generosity with his freebies, I now have a Flickr Pro membership. Now I just have to get some photos to throw up there (I have some photos I can put up there, just need to collect them all).

Anybody who’s a member there, feel free to add me as a contact so I know who’s there.

73 And Counting

I now have 73 blogs and journals listed over at Bend Blogs. I’ve come across far more, but they haven’t been updated in the last 30 days so I haven’t included them. By far, most of them are LiveJournal users, but there’s still good reads on some of them.

I’m still yet to find time to clean up my to-do list for that site, but at least I know the content’s there.

Anybody know of any sites I might be missing?

Hello World Tattoo

Amazing Lego Work

While the Lego Bible Stories (as well as some of the other Lego creations that have been featured on this site) are all fine and dandy, this creation is one of the most impressive I’ve seen (at least in recent memory). Thanks simplexr for the link.

More Google Map Goodies

I mentioned before about the fun people are having with Google Maps. Lately, the web is all abuzz about all the cool things that people are doing and finding. So far, my favorite (just because of the pure usefulness of it) goes to this great hack that places all the For-Sale/Rent listings on Craigslist onto Google Maps with nice color coding by price. People also have discovered interesting results when you’re searching for “cocksuckers near NYC.” Conspiracy theorists around the world have been entertained by the Area 51 shots (as has Greg).

Google’s blog is getting in on the fun including links to an airline graveyard and somebody with too much time on their hands. They’ve also come up with a map that shows where the most people are searching. Wired has a good article on fun spottings and perljam has a large listing as well.

And for those of us that never leave the house, here’s a good way to do some sightseeing.

On a totally unrelated note, did you know you could get Google Facts and other Google info sent to your mobile phone via SMS? That was news to me. Search on the go — I love it and just wish I didn’t have such a crappy cell phone when it comes to reading this stuff (I have a Nokia 2260, just because it was free, but I’m not a huge fan of the thing).

Chocolate Fights Cancer

Now don’t go out and buy a bunch of candy bars to fight off disease, but a study sponsored by, surprisingly enough, a large candy bar manufacturer, shows that ingredients in chocolate can help fight cancer cells in lab experiments. Full press release here.

Overclock Your Calculator

I have an old TI-83 around someplace and if I was good with a soldering iron, I’d be all over this experiment. I just know that somewhere out there, there’s somebody trying this, right before they take the SATs next month, and their calculator will burst into flames during the test.

Roger’s Back!

Roger — aka the High Desert Skeptic — joined us for our first blogger meetup many moons ago. His online activity has been limited since Kerry lost the election (he was a big Democrat supporter).

However, he’s back online. He went and spent some time Thailand after the December tsunamis, and came back with some great pictures and stories.

Sex Offender Database Search

It’s not quite searching Oregon yet, but it’s getting quite a few other states. Anybody have one living nearby, according to this?
