Why can’t you open up a store here and get local numbers in Bend without serious work (like porting a number or something) so that I can get the new iPhone 2.0 that’s coming out? That thing is going to kick ass (official Apple site here).

I’m a little biased because I’m already in a contract with T-Mobile (and have been for three years), but I say wait until it’s been jailbroken and use it with T-Mobile. They’ve got pretty good service in Bend.
Joshua has a really good point. I have heard rumors that you can buy them directly from an Apple store unlocked, and people say some nasty things about AT&T (all things considered, it is a cell phone company and they all suck). Your link to your previous article is broken btw.
Fixed. Thanks, Nate.
I think ATT will be EDGE for for a bit instead of 3G/HSDPA. The price, enterprise integration and VPN features makes this a compelling work phone.
The 3G iPhone has to be activated at time of purchase with AT&T, so it’ll cost you a good $475 or so with the early termination fee if you intend to take it to T-Mobile.
I’ve been with T-Mobile for almost 3 years now, and I’m getting really pissed that they just don’t keep up with the technology. If it’s not too much of a hassle in terms of roaming contracts (all cell companies reserve the right to kick your ass if you roam too much) I’m going to drop my T-Mobile line and get a new iPhone this fall. It’s worth the extra $10/mo for such a kick ass device.
Also 3G is only available in metro areas — for Oregon, that’s Portland, Salem, Eugene and Roseburg? Medford? something like that. It’ll spread eventually.
Here, here!
Not that AT&T is listening or even cares…
All of my inquires to AT&T are met with the run-around or with “We’re happy to sell you the iPhone… but, you’re likely to have it disconnected after 2 months of using ‘shared partners’ only”.
If anyone else in Central Oregon is interested in having an iPhone or AT&T here…. please let them know (for whatever good it might do).
Ummm … oh, yeah… Damn you AT&T!
From what I hear, AT&T has purchased Unicel’s old tower locations and are in the process of establishing their reach here. Expect 5-8 months.
where do you “hear” this.
I’m in Bend and brought my iPhone over from California last year. Last week they cut off my roaming here so I have “no signal”. Gonna call them Monday and hopefully get it back on.
I brought my iPhone and AT&T here from the east coast. Service was great but lately it is very spotty? I will drop to two bars and without moving will loose service and then 2 minutes later have full bars without moving.
Anyway I know ATT is trying to come to central oregon because they have been attempting to get approval for an antenna in Prineville 🙂
I have the Iphone here in Bend. I just got on a family plan with my sister who lives in Vegas and it works great. The MMS doesn’t work because we’re roaming, but everything is great. Internet is surprisingly fast on the Edge internet. I was at the county building in Bend and AT&T was in there inquiring about a building here in town. Rumor has it that they should be here by Jan of 2010… just a few months away :))) I’m looking forward to having 3G here in Bend.
PS: I’ve been with them all…. Nothing can compete with the Iphone 3GS 32gig. It’s the best invention of the decade if you use it to it’s fullest capability.
I visit Bend for 4 months in the summer. I use a family members TMobile unlocked IPhone because of the off network roaming problem! I want to know when AT&T is coming to Bend and if service will be spotty because of not enough towers! I want to bring my own IPHONE to Bend!! Thanks for any info!!
Is AT&T still coming to Bend by Jan. 2010???? I am dying to get the i-phone and sick of using other carriers! Does anyone have any updated ifno?
