I like Iron Chef America, but the original Iron Chef Japan is entertaining in its own way. It’s back on TV, but it’s on the Fine Living channel, which, unfortunately, we don’t get on basic cable here. But thanks to the magic of the interwebs, you can watch them online.

The concept of “basic cable” is no longer current. That was an old term applying to a cable company’s standard analog line up. This term isn’t really relevant in the digital world (you won’t find the term “basic” in the digital line up of BBB or our high in the sky competition). Fine Living is not a top tier network, and as such is not included in the lowest priced offerings. With BendBroadband you can obtain Fine Living by combining Essentials with the Variety tier for $48.99 or you could combine it with Preferred for $53.99. This is competitively priced with Sat for their upper level packages where Fine Living is also positioned.
It’s a concept that is no longer current, I’ll agree, but it’s a concept people are familiar with. When I got moved from basic analog cable, I was moved onto the like package on digital. Same channels (mostly), just different name. So when I refer to basic cable, I refer to the most common channel plan. Calling it “essentials” or “preferred” doesn’t help the many readers of this site who are from out of the area and don’t have BendBroadband.
You aren’t missing anything by not seeing the Fine Living broadcasts. They changed all of the music, and the replacement songs are not that good.

I understand the concept, it’s something we’re trying to get away from though. The more important fact is that Fine Living is not a top tier channel and is not on the “basic” package of cable or satellite companies for that reason. Also, the more you put in a “basic” package, the more everyone will pay for basic, which we have tried to avoid in order to provide more choice and pricing options. Thanks.
