So What Killed Skype Over The Weekend?

The majority of the blame lies in Microsoft’s Windows Update or so says Skype. I really seems like to me it’s more of Skype infrastructure problem, just like the commenters below said.

Shane says:

So it was the fault of a large number of PCs rebooting at the same time after updating with their Windows updates and flooding the Skype servers with reconnect requests? Seems to me like it’s Skype who need to improve their infrastructure.

Jake says:

My thought’s exactly, Shane, and I will edit my post accordingly.

Shane says:

Thanks Jake. To be fair, the vast majority of sites around the ‘net are presenting it as a Microsoft problem. I guess poor M$ are in everyone’s sights!

Jake says:

No problem, Shane. I just didn’t have time to articulate my thoughts at all, but agree with you completely.

Jim Vines says:

I don’t have those problems or any others for that matter. I have VoIP service w/Lightyear Communications. With VoIP I don’t even need a computer – instead I have a Lightyear Xstream VoIP digital-to-analog adapter. The adapter plugs into my DSL modem. The Lightyear adapter does however function as a splendid router for my computer.
Lightyear also has a phone card that gets me into the “Internet Cloud” from any land line or with my cell phone. The Lightyear Virtual VoIP Card lets me call places like New Zealand for the same (or sometimes lower) rates than with my Lightyear Xstream VoIP adapter.
So now I can call New Zealand for 0.04/minute from my cell phone – no connect or disconnect charges, no weekly service charges like with those “gas station” cards. And I get ROLLOVER MINUTES from one month to the next!
No wonder I started selling for Lightyear!
