Here are some random geek links while I wait for the war to end.
- LetMeType provides OS-level autocomplete (link via Google System).
- Speaking of the Google System, they come at us to tell us that Google’s purchase of Feedburner has opened up some free features (expect my feeds to be “burned” soon). Maybe Google’s aquisition of Grand Central will provide equally as cool features. Since I am a Grand Central user, I apparently have some invites to use, so if anybody wants them, first come, first serve.
- This Old House wires a house for geeks.
- AllofMP3 is dead, but alternatives have appeared.
- CNN.com was redesigned.
- Setting up a childproof PC with Linux.
- Learning the Unix file system.
- Turning a C batter into a D battery with a few quarters.
- Enhanced Firefox page search with Search Marker.
- Average download speed for broadband in the US: 1.97mbs. In Japan: 61mbs.
- Giving your passwords the finger.
- Image to HTML converter, which basically turns an image into a bunch of 1×1 colored table cells. They’re a mess to render in browsers if you do this with high-res images.
- A bunch of AJAX solutions.
- A fix for Slow Typing HTML in Outlook.
- Turning off the “Go” button in Firefox.
- Virtualize and Dual-boot the same Windows XP installation on your Mac (this is damn cool).
- Delete un-deletable files with WhoLockMe.
- Top 10 Network Utilities.
- Great program to introduce kids to programming.
- Need a Windows XP key? Google can help.
Hope everybody had a safe Fourth. I’ll be up for a couple more hours (despite the fact that I have to work tomorrow) to make sure my house doesn’t suffer the fate of this one.
