This is a scare piece. There is nothing substancial in the article that proves that advertising your kids have helped sexual predators.
Kids on myspace helps sexual predators, kids’ names on car windows helps sexual predators, kids going outside helps sexual predators, HAVING kids helps sexual predators.
If you kid is stupid enough get into a car with a stranger who says “hey bobby your mom said I should bring you home from school”, the’ll probably go for the “hey kid, do you want some candy” line as well.
And just for the record, I have 2 kids and think putting signs in your yard annoucing your kids to the world is stupid.
This is why I suggest the MY GAMER FRAGGED YOUR HONOR STUDENT bumper sticker, that way no one knows if you are joking, and they might believe your kid is accurate with the BFG to boot.
I completely agree with Aaron. This is a scare piece. My biggest problem with the whole sexual predator thing, is this. If you actually look at the stats., about 1 in a Zillion kids in the U.S. is snatched by a complete stranger. Most are taked by a divorced parent or something like that. The Polly Klaas stories are the flashy ones that get all of the ink though.
My son reminded me that he’s safe, since I’m definitely a baaaaad mother: I would never pay extra to have my kids NAME put on a bumper sticker… I’d just use any old name I could find.
He figures if he’s dumb enough to answer to Sally, he deserves to be kidnapped. 😉

Scare piece it may be, but I’m with the school of thought that you don’t advertise. Its the same with license plates that advertise that your car belongs to a female. Why make it easy for the creeps?
I have two bumper stickers. One says “Women Marines. Fewer. Prouder”
The other says “I’m low on estrogen and I have a gun”
Hopefully, that’ll solve the problem. 😉
