Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures

I’ve seen people sell worthless crap on eBay to get funds to buy something cool, but this is pretty sad (did I miss eBay free listing day, as that’d be the only way I’d bother to list this crap):

Yes, you are bidding to help me get my 5 kids a Nintendo Wii cause this is a sad pathetic auction and im bored and have nothing else to sell. We can’t find one and can’t afford to wait 2 days in line because we have to work for a living. So I tried buying some lottery tickets and didn’t win. Then my remote control broke and I drink cheap pop. SO this auction is for a (1) Can of Diet Dr. Thunder!, (1) Broken tvvvvv remote control w/manual, and (2) Losing Lottery Tickets, Yes they are the authentic losing tickets. I’m also willing to trade this crap for a Nintendo Wii.

It was no laughing matter for Bend police who stopped a pickup and arrested two men early Friday on charges of stealing a large canister of nitrous oxide — the anesthetic known as “laughing gas” — from a nearby dental office.

Nitrous oxide is commonly known as “laughing gas” due to the euphoric effects of inhaling it. Used in surgery and dentistry as an anesthetic, it also can be used as an oxidizer in internal combustion engines, Ritchie said.

Looking at their mug shots, it looks like they’re having a good time.

Yeah, it’s after Thanksgiving, but I still had to share this video (thanks to the several folks who e-mailed it to me). I do remember watching WKRP. I was only a baby when it was on originally, but I used to watch it in reruns of it when I was a little older, as it was on syndication from somewhere our TV antenna could pick up.

Turkey Day, Black Friday, Civil War Wrap Up

I won’t waste a bunch of time with this, as I’m still recovering from yesterday and I’m sure the bulk majority of my usual readers (all six of you) are probably not around anyway, so here are the bullet points:

  • One perk/problem/bonus about having both my wife’s and my family locally is that we usually end up eating dinner with both folks. Her parents usually eat earlier (noon-ish), my parents in the evening, so it works out. One thing I wasn’t aware of until a couple days before Thanksgiving, however, was that we were hosting the in-laws. While we weren’t doing any cooking (or much, at least) it did make for a packed house and a crazy day in general.
  • No, I did not get up at the crack of dawn this morning to hit the various sales. I have better things to do with my time, thank you. Like sleep in on my day off. If you got some cool deals or experiences to share, feel free to comment here.
  • I think both of Oregon’s kickers will be lucky of their houses back in Eugene aren’t burned down after tanking as bad as they did in today’s game. I’m sure one local blogger is happy as a clam that the Beavers won, and it was at least an entertaining game. But if I were those two place kickers, I’d sleep lightly as there are some crazies in Eugene.

More Idiot Politicians Blaming Video Games For Violence

This time in Germany…

BERLIN (Reuters) – Leading German lawmakers demanded a crackdown on violent computer and simulated war games on Tuesday over concerns that they may have helped inspire a young man to attack his former school with guns and explosives.

The masked 18-year-old man stormed the Scholl secondary school on Monday in the western German town of Emsdetten, wounding as many as 27 people before committing suicide.

And you know why they’re trying crack down on makers of video games instead of people who make the guns and weapons? I think this Boondocks comic pretty much sums it up:
