Out of all the things they could send down a small hole to trapped miners, why an iPod?
BEACONSFIELD, Australia — Two Australian miners trapped for more than a week in a tiny cage more than a half mile underground were given iPods Wednesday to help them while away the hours as rescuers prepared to start drilling them an escape tunnel.
Did they send down a network cable so they could sync up with iTunes? Hopefully they sent headphones. Thanks Barn for the link.

Well, out of all the things they could send down they had already sent down food, water, notes from loved ones, and toiletries… I guess the list of needs goes pretty quick.
If you’re like me and have your headphones glued into your ears most of the time you’d be wanting your iPod after going on 9 days underground.
Who else wonders what songs were loaded on them?
I bet they were filled with Menudo and Backstreet Boys songs. That’d be a great joke to play on them.
How mad would you be if you got it with all of your favorite songs and there was no charge left and the battery went dead?
I have to agree with Dave on that one,that long underground and not knowing for sure..yeah the mind would play tricks no matter who it is,that iPod is a good thing…
One of the ipods was filled with country music. I have no idea what the other one had.
It’s day 11 now and they’re about 1.5 metres from getting the miners out. They now have to dig the rest of the way by hand in order not to injure the miners. Just think, trying to jackhammer your way through that much rock that is approx. 5X the hardness of concrete. Geez, that’s gonna take ages…
