A Much Needed Feature For BendBlogs.com

This is one of those things that I’ve been trying to get around to doing for quite a while, but there is now a site submit form and an about us/FAQ page. The content of each of those pages is subject to change but it’s at least much better than it was before.

So if anybody has any submissions for blogs that need to be added to BendBlogs, use those forms on that page so I can keep better track of them. As it stands right now, we have 169 blogs getting indexed, with a few more added today.

Also of note, if any of you folks reading this are using a Blogger.com (aka an *.blogspot.com blog) or a LiveJournal blog, and want a different FavIcon, if you can find a place to host it, I can manually tweak my settings in BendBlogs to show that icon. Just use the submit form to submit your new FavIcon URL.

Local Hit And Run Victims Needs Your Help

Were you in downtown Bend at approximately 8:45PM on 4/28? There was a hit-and-run accident near the Greenwood Laundromat on 8th street, involving three folks who had already had some serious tragedy just a couple days earlier. Read the full (and very sad) story here about some folks who are having some seriously rotten luck and how you can help.

So Maybe MySpace isn’t a Total Waste

As many of you know, my attitude towards MySpace has been pretty apathetic — I just didn’t get a rip about it. I setup a profile on there a while back, had a few friends add me, found a couple people I knew who had profiles, and that was really about it.

Then today I get an “add as friend” notification that somebody who I hadn’t talked to basically since my early college years, but was a great friend of mine growing up. I didn’t even know if the dude was still alive (long story, but I just pictured him getting killed at an early age by doing something stupid), so I sent him a note and hope to hear back from him.

So while I’ll still generally avoid MySpace (unless I’m searching for local blogs), I guess it does some good.

The Rise And Fall of the Nigerian Space Program

Before Cheryl sent me this hilarious story about a childhood experiment with gun powder, I had never heard of The LawDog Files. The stories he writes are hilarious and it’s been addded it to my wish-I-had-more-time-to-comb-through collection of RSS feeds.

She Was Probably Just Trying To Use The Carpool Lane

Woman nabbed driving corpse across country.

A 53-year-old German woman who was driving her dead mother across country to save on mortuary transportation costs was fined by police for disturbing a dead person’s peace.

“You’re not allowed to transport dead people in your private car,” said Ralf Schomisch, police spokesman in Koblenz, where the car was found after a tip-off from a mortuary.

“The corpse was on the back seat without a seat belt, which in this case didn’t really matter. But it was covered up with clothing. It is a misdemeanor.”

Does Anybody Need A Crapload of Girl Scout Cookies?

First off, I know that you’re not allowed to sell Girl Scout Cookies over the Internet, but that’s only if you’re actually selling on behalf of the Girl Scouts and you’re associated with them, and I’m neither — I’ll be putting you in touch with the man who is (who will remain nameless, as I don’t want to get the dude in trouble).

But here’s the deal: A buddy of mine here in Bend is getting screwed by the Girl Scouts. The troop he and his wife are involved in took on a bunch of extra cookies for booth sales (an estimated number). Last year they let you return unwanted and extras, but apparently this year (which was a surprise to them and bunch of phone calls hasn’t helped), they wouldn’t take them back. So they’re stuck with over $1000 of Girl Scout cookies.

As it stands right now, he has the following (and each case of cookies is 12 boxes) Update: Total that’s left has been updated as of 5/1:

  • Thin Mints (my wife’s favorite and I’ve got a box on order): 14 About 4 Cases
  • Samoas (my personal favorite and I’ve got a box on order): 7 <1 Case
  • Tagalongs: 4 2 Cases
  • Allabouts: 1 case 2 boxes

They usually sell for $4.00/box, but he’s selling them for $3.50/box or $40 for an entire case ($3.33/box). He’ll deliver anywhere in Bend, or ship if you PayPal him shipping.

If you’re interested, contact me, comment here with a valid e-mail address and I’ll put you in touch. You can also email [email protected] and that redirects to his e-mail account.

He needs to liquidate as much as possible as soon as possible, as the deadline to pay this off is coming up fast.

OLCC chief quits after drunken-driving arrest

Whoopsie. Ironic? Indeed.

Be sure to check out a better mugshot on KGW (though I’m not pointing you there for the story because they require registration, and I frickin’ hate that).

How Do People Find UtterlyBoring.com?

Apparently some folks at a radio station in Portland (who will remain nameless, as I didn’t ask for permission) were bored (which seems to bring a bunch of traffic here) and searched for “bastard gas prices suck“, which has an old post on my site listed as the third result.

It was from 2003 and I was complaining about our $1.94 prices. My have times changed.
