Captain Obvious to the rescue! The point is that any driver who would try to change a CD while driving or talk on the phone without a handsfree kit is stupid. The same way anyone would drive while drunk is stupid.
If can get your car rigged so that you can talk on the phone, change the music without taking your hands off the steering wheel and your eyes off the road, then that’s no problem. But if you don’t then your phone will very likely be the cause of your next accident.
Not true. True is that calling handsfree has exactly the same effect on your concentration as using a carkit. But making conversation is distracting much more than changing a CD because you have to formulate thoughts. I read somewhere (sorry, I don’t remember where) that people who were driving while on the phone using a car kit had a response time even worse than people who’d drank two beers.
Umm, no. It does not. A hands free kit leaves your other hand free. Not only do you have to fumble with the phone, or switch hands as you get tired, increasing the extra distracted moments, you are also using part of your brains capacity to hold on to the phone. It’s a bit like a computer – just cause you don’t know you’re CPU is doing any work while you are browsing doesn’t mean that it isn’t… think of how slow a PC gets as you throw in some adware… hand hold phone = resources downed.
And, response time is on the individual and how they place their priorities – driving or talking. Me, I sometimes annoy people because I focus on the driving.
Damn, I just noticed how old these comments are.
Crap.

Doing anything but paying attention to driving increases your chances of an accident. Thank god I take cabs and the subway.
