“Put Some American On It”
To “put some English on it” means to give it a spin. To “make it Irish” means to add alcohol to it. So what does it mean when you “Put Some American On It”? Fark has a few ideas.
A Feel Good Story For The Day
A woman anonymously donated a kidney to help save somebody’s life. Then he happens to win the lottery, and what’s she decide to do with some of her money? She’s fixing the car of the person who received her kidney. Full story of this wonderful woman.
There Are Some Very Weird People Out There
But I can’t say that I’ve seen anything quite as weird as this (former) Mormon, Playboy model, stock broker, and self-described “good witch” who once offered to raise money for Armageddon by appearing in porn films but is now going to (potentially) put on death row.
Whoa.
Canada Refuses to Change Name to “Ronald Reagan”
Forward Barney sent me. Anybody know the source? Update Original is here.
CANADA REFUSES TO CHANGE ITS NAME TO RONALD REAGAN
Republicans Blast Canadians as ‘Ingrates’
Canada today rebuffed a proposal made by Republicans in Congress to change its name to Ronald Reagan.
The controversial proposal, which appeared to have broad backing from congressional Republicans, was suggested as a way for Canada to show its appreciation for the kindness and friendship that Mr. Reagan extended during his eight years as president.
But moments after the proposal was floated, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin gave the notion of renaming his country Ronald Reagan a frosty thumbs-down.
“Canada has no intention of changing its name to Ronald Reagan, Ronald McDonald or Ronald anything else,” Mr. Martin said in a speech to Parliament. “For one thing, it would require a total rewrite of the song ‘O Canada.'”
But in Congress, leading Republicans said that renaming the Canadian national anthem “O Ronald Reagan” was “no biggie” and attributed selfish motives to Canada’s refusal.
“After all Ronald Reagan did for them, these Canadians are acting like a bunch of ingrates,” said Senator James M. Inhofe (R-OK). “It’s no wonder some of them speak French, if you catch my meaning.”
Mr. Inhofe said that if Canada held fast to its position, the U.S. would ask Mexico or possibly England to change its name, “but if all else fails, there’s always Iraq.”
Elsewhere, the Bush re-election campaign announced today that after a week-long hiatus, it would resume airing blistering attack ads about Sen. John Kerry(D-MA) at 12:01 AM Saturday.
The ads will air on a relentless, round-the-clock basis in every state of the country because, in the words of Bush strategist Karl Rove, “We have a week’s worth of catching up to do.”
Dave Winer Thinks He’s God
What other reason would he have to shut down — without warning — all the blogs at Weblogs.com? It was discovered later that he couldn’t afford the bandwidth, not any problems with the server, like he said. This is also the same guy that tried to charge $500 to gab with him.
Firefox 0.9 is Out
For your downloading pleasure (and it’s a small download — they’ve managed to get a kick-ass browser install in less than 5-megs!). Please try to use the download mirrors.
Yahoo Ups Mail Storage
Screw Gmail. I just got a 100-meg quota on my Yahoo! e-mail account. Granted, it’s not Gmails 1-gig, but I already have a larger quota than that on my personal email account on this server. And my mail gets downloaded anyway — I don’t use IMAP. The primary reason I would want Gmail is so I could e-mail a large file to it that I needed to download on another person’s computer. I’d basically use it as a file storage medium. Yahoo! Mail, for $20/year, also offers 2-gig of storage.
7 Hours Later…
…and the online booking server at work is back online. I reverted back to Windows 2000 versus running it on Windows 2003 as our reservation system had some performance and stability issues with Windows 2003 (it’s an old piece of crap, DOS-based system, so I don’t blame Microsoft on this one, I blame the software). I rebuilt the exporting scripts, fixed the IIS permissions, updated, patched, sliced, and diced. I still need re-do the SSL cert as my cert backup doesn’t seem to want to work, so that’s on the to-do list for tomorrow, as well as getting FTP access back up (not a critical thing, as I rarely use FTP to get onto the server). Performance is much better on the server under Windows 2K than Windows 2K3, and more stable.
Now I just need to catch up with my other work, which will take longer. Ugh.
