Good News and Bad News
Well, the good news is that I’ve got two years to pay off my hospital bill. The bad news is that they’re not giving me a single friggin’ discount.
I sent them a letter a few weeks back, basically stating that while a complete wipe of the bill would certainly not be argued with, I’m not asking for that. I’m asking to be billed what an insurance company would pay, which is usually about 20-30% less than what’s originally billed. Does anybody know anybody at any insurance companies that I could fax this to just to see what they’d pay, just for kicks? I’m not insured, otherwise I’d send it to mine.
So the good news is that I’ll only have to pay $90/month for the next 24 months, which is a little bit more manageable. But it still annoys the hell out of me that I’m not getting a single discount while if an insurance company were to pay them 70% of what they were billed, they’d just write it off.
Why you should always proofread your papers
I feel sorry for some professors sometimes, especially ones that have to teach lower-level classes that everybody has to take. By teaching a lower-level English/writing class, a prof probably gets his fill of horribly written sentences.
So what does a professor do? He posts them on his site where he makes fun of the worst of the worst (and there are some bad ones). Thankfully for the students, he doesn’t post names. Link via BBspot.
This is Why I Don’t Drink
Because I just know I’d wake up to this. Thanks to Rick for the link.
Using Unreal Tournament 2004 to play Golf?
Duffers Golf is a single and multiplayer modification for Epic Games’ Unreal Tournament 2004 that allows you to play a very well-done game of golf. That just goes to show the flexibility of the game’s engine. From Waxy’s Links.
You can find anything on DVD
Proof in point: The first seasons of The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, and The A-Team. (And yes, I did put my Amazon affiliate tag in there, in case you do feel the need to buy the items I’ll at least get a few pennies off of it.)
The Law Prof Hunk / Babe of the Year Contest
I was never in law school, but I do remember some of the good looking women who used to hang out near the law school at UO. If was still in Eugene, I would happily submit pictures and names to Jack’s Law-Prof Hunk/Babe contest. Virginia, if you’re reading this (a girl I know, not the state), you’re about the only person I know in law school currently, so e-mail me so I can nominate you. Update: I mis-read Jack’s post: This contest is for law-profs only, not a hunk/babe student contest. Students can nominate, however.
That’d be a Fun Read
The book is 223 pages, and doesn’t contain a single verb.
Google vs. The Library vs. A Phone
How fast is Google at finding out obscure information? A newspaper in the UK pits it against a phone and a library. The results are pretty interesting, and while not even remotely scientific, does prove that sometimes Google isn’t always the best answer for everything.
