Saturday night, the annual Sadie Hawkin’s Dance at Bend HS was closed down early because the students at the dance were getting a bit too cozy:
“Quite honestly it’s like having sex with your clothes on,” said Mary McDermott, a teacher and the school’s activities director, describing the style of dancing.
Apparently there were signs on the doors said no freak dancing and no grinding (like high schoolers are going to read that stuff). Now, I understand their reasoning for wanting them to not do it, but it just reminds me of the old lady when I was growing up that used to walk around school dances with a ruler and make sure you were 12-inches apart when you were dancing. By being bastards about it, they’ve all but encouraged it from happening as much as possible in the future. Ask the offenders to leave — forcefully if you have to — but don’t blow the rest of the dance for everybody who are there to just have fun and be social.
What gets me is that I know Bend HS, and all the other high schools in Bend, have a tropical-themed dance every year, and they let that go on when the women and men are about as close to naked as you can get in public. At least the folks at Sadies had their clothes on.

HAHAHA! Slap on some Peter Paul and Mary along with some Bach and Mozart, and that’ll make them stop bumping and grinding.
Of course, it’ll probably cause them to riot and burn the school down, but as long as they’re not doing it in a sexual manner, it’s OK, right? 😉
i think it’s stupid what the teachers did!!! That’s why people go to dances, to have fun. I do not understand what the techers are thinking. If people woul;d have seen the sign and paid attention it wouldn’t be fun and no one would’ve showed up. and yes it’s like sex with your chlothes on but it’s not sex because you have chlothes on.. So in conclusion if the teachers didn’t want this to happen they shouldn’t of had the dance at all1!!!
alright, I am actually a student who attends Bend HS, and I also went to Sadies and got kicked out. FYI, couples WERE being “asked to leave” but apperently that wasn’t solving the problem. Students were warned numerous times that the dance would be cancled with no refunds if this “dirty dancing” continued. Here’s my perspective: I love having fun and getting down and dirty as much as the next guy, but the point is that this was a school sponsered event, so kids should follow the guidelines and restrictions. If folks wanna rent a motel room or go somewehre appropriate, they can have thier humpfests and you won’t hear a peep out of me. But at school, the administrators are responsible for the behavior that goes on. I, for one at least, would like to be able to go to a dance and have fun without watching somebody get fingered, groaning and creamin’ all over the dance floor. No kidding, I saw it happen last year.
I think students are free to do what they want. Last I heard it was a free country. What is the problem with grinding I mean it would be wrong for a kid in elementary school but high school that crazy there almost grown up give them fredom or give life. So what I am saying is no one should take away anyones rights.

Some just don’t go to dances at all. My teacher agrees with me and so do my friends. I’m one of those stand back and watch ppl but my friend, as you call it, dirty dance and have loads of fun.
So To finish this I’d like to say I disagree with banding dancing at school.

I think that dirty anf freak dancing should be allowed because people are alowed to dance free and beside the first amendement read it If you dont know what it is everyone should be able to dance how they want. I mean we dont say anything to are parents on how they dance.

You guys do realize that you do not have the right to do that in a public area. The first amendement is the freedom of speach….not the freedom to get your freak on. The teachers at the school do have the right to do that. You should do what smart kids do, just do it when the teachers arn’t around.

Wow, I haven’t checked this article out in a while, but I can see I haven’t missed much. Just more of my supposed peers proving to the rest of the world that they are indeed as ignorant, immature, and indifferent as we all first suspected. I’m so embarrased to be counted among this generation. I considered spending my time and energy explaining the obnoxious inaccuracies of nearly every comment previously made, but quickly realized that it would be an incredible waste of my time. Anyway, if you have any sort of INTELLIGENT thing to say, I seriously suggest that you make INTELLIGENT comments, not just f-this and f-that and f-old people. Grow up a little. Also, I would suggest that you A. read the first ammendmant CAREFULLY and B. try making actual comments, based on the law, rather than just ranting and yelling and cussing for two paragraphs with no punctuation and no clue.

Dude, i agree completely w/ vry1, but u dont hav to just go f-this and f-that to prove yur point. Look, grinding is the thing teens do at dances, discourage it all u want its still gonna happen. If parents discourage it more, then its gonna happen more. Its not “sex with clothes on” its just a style of dancing and its fun so adults should just get used to it. Even if they dont, we’ll still do it and thats their problem not ours.
