Moving from Outlook Express to Thunderbird

If you don’t know, Thunderbird is a stand-alone mail client, created as a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. I’m considering switching our office from using Outlook Express to Thunderbird, mostly because keeping up on the patches for OE is a pain in the butt, and OE doesn’t have built-in spam filtering .If you need more reasons, Neil has a pile of reasons why he thinks Thunderbird is superior, I still use Outlook 2002 myself, as I use its scheduling functions quite a bit, but if I didn’t need them, I’d be using Thunderbird.

But here’s the trick: Making the move from OE to Thunderbird as seamless as possible. For this, you just need to read this step-by-step guide, and a little motivation. As the article points out, if you’re using OE because you can check your Hotmail account from it (now there’s a compelling reason to keep OE — so you can download all your Hotmail spam as well as your normal spam), Hotmail Popper will allow you to access your Hotmail e-mail from any client.

So you have the perfect resume

This site asks: “Wouldn’t it be great if you could just turn in the most brutally honest version of yourself and your “duties and accomplishments” and still get a job?!” The entries on his parody resume are great! Link via BBspot.

Kids, don’t be stupid like this guy

When you throw your beer can out the window of your car, make sure you don’t hit the windshield of a police car.

Don’t cook or wash clothing in public toilets

Turn the tables on telemarketers

I just have to quote this funny story:

The federal government’s do-not-call list has saved millions of Americans from pesky telemarketers, but Tom Mabe had to take it one step further.

The comedian and jingle-writer goes on the offensive on “A Wake-Up Call for Telemarketers,” his new CD being released Tuesday. Last year, Mabe traveled to Washington, D.C., for a telemarketers convention and stayed at their hotel. He waited until the wee hours of the morning ? and started dialing.

It goes on with some of his funny conversations. It looks like the CDs are available on Amazon for $14.99. That could be a funny one.

How everyday things are made

One of the things I liked about watching PBS when I was a kid was that they occassionally showed shows on how stuff was made. The machines in these factories, and how fast they did things, was always so fascinating to me. Leave it up to Stanford to put a pile of videos online that range from how jelly beans are made to how airplanes are made. I could spend my entire day here! Link from BBspot.

What do drunk people in a trailer park in Mississippi do?

Conservatives aren’t necessarily stupid…

…but most stupid people are conservation, or so says this guy. Along the same lines, let’s slame liberals a bit: Naivete and narcissism: What makes a liberal. Links from Fark.

Stupid worms are pummeling my firewall

If you haven’t heard the about the latest Blaster worm, you’ve been living in a hole. Thankfully, my firewall’s setup right, but the logs still show about 150 hits an hour on the affected ports.
