Jon Stewart's Commencement Address
Jon Stewart, of The Daily Show fame, graduated from William & Mary in 1984. This year, he was invited back to give the commencement speech, and it's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.

Robert said on 10/26/05 @ 07:46 AM: I hope this gets to him. Jon Stewart needs to hear this and I'd like to hear back on it, but I'm not holding my breath. I've been let down by Jon Stewart. The reason is that He does the same thing that every other Anchorman does. He only covers the main Party Lines. He makes it sound like you either have to pick either Democrat or Republican when there isn't really anything different about them. At the end of the day both candidates from a campaign go golfing together. There is and always will be the ruling class. Those with money make the laws and the poor are trampled underfoot. Why not expose those who have the power to turn a drug legal because it suits them even though it has severe side effects that only show up after a seperate corporation does an investigation for the government. I'd like to see him make fun of those who really deserve it. Too bad that isn't too funny since it hits a little close to home, but I think he should go there.

cody said on 11/10/06 @ 09:30 AM: does thedailyshow@comedy central really work for an email address, yes
Howard TabachnickHoward Toward Tabachnick said on 05/03/07 @ 04:36 PM: Put down the joint Mr. Liebowitz and tell us why you are not as offended by The View as you were of Crossfire ? Isn't the fat comic also a political hack ?
Give us the straght dope Jon.

james said on 10/22/07 @ 07:03 PM: Jon Stewart is a guy who thinks he is funny but is really just an ignorant ASS. Anybody who brings a presidential candidate on his show and asks him/her a question and then doesn't even let them answer because he's trying to make a mockery of them and try to be funny, and he's NOT funny, is just an ignorant ASS. What a waste of corporate money.
james said on 10/22/07 @ 07:11 PM: Actually I think Jon is a guy who would like to be president but he doesn't have a clue so that's why he's on a show trying to be a funnyman. I'd be surprised if he could even spell "president"
mecla said on 02/16/08 @ 03:16 PM: The Mark Siegel interview was one of the best moments of the daily show in living memory ... and it was not funny, it was not meant to be funny ... it meant to be humane!
KATHY ELLIS said on 03/05/08 @ 11:48 AM: YOUR SHOW IS AMAZING
PEOPLE IN ST REMY LOVE IT!

Kathleenb said on 09/22/08 @ 05:08 PM: Jon Stewart does not have to be funny in his interview segment. If you are a DS fan, you will get your laughs from the other segments. Jon is smart, but he insults his guests by interrupting them and making fun of them. They get only a few minutes and Jon wastes precious time trying to be funny. I want to hear what the guest has to say, and usually it's about a book or a serious topic. Plesae Jon, we love you. and I love the show. Give your guests a chance.
Reason said on 10/16/08 @ 03:04 PM: You fools do realize The Daily Show is a spoof of news programs, and not an actual news program, correct?
Phil Dog said on 03/14/09 @ 08:53 PM: The fool is perhaps the one who does not understand that 'news', i.e. critical commentary, can only occur in US popular culture today under the guise of something else - comedy, animation, etc.
Joe said on 07/07/09 @ 02:24 PM: Or, perhaps the fool is the one trying to equate "news", which is generally considered to be (or at least is supposed to be) an objective recitation of the relevant facts of a given situation, with "critical commentary", which is generally thought of as editorial content and not true news (hence the inclusion of the words "critical" and "commentary"). Given the current status of American "news" programs, the mistake is understandable.
Bill Landers said on 03/16/10 @ 10:33 AM: I would bet that plenty of United States Veterans would like to see a skit about how Dick Cheney got his Five Diferments, after getting 4 then out popped Liz Cheney as his 5th( Isn't it ironic that she makes the most noise about protecting our country). My question as a decorated Vietnam surviving veteran is, Where would our country stand today if all the brave WWII veterans had use Cheney's extreme tactic's to avoid serving thier country?
Mo said on 07/14/10 @ 06:02 PM: Amen Bill! Funny how often bullies are actually cowards.
Say, who was that masked-man "James"?
FOX called and they need more of your kind of intellectual atavism.
Sad that it's the jester who reveals deeper, more insightful news and commentary than the so called "legitimate" news and commentary sources. Maybe he occasionally goes a tad far with his cutting up, yet he still makes the legit news crowd seem like a carload of clowns. Bless you Jon Stewart and thank you.
Dahlia said on 09/15/10 @ 10:52 AM: Right right right. You all are right, lol.
Give Jon a full hour so we can get this (more) fully worked out. The only solution for Jon Stewart is Moar Jon Stewart!
Give time for the comedy AND the interview.
Give time for the parties AND the alternatives.
And for tech segments like Rachel Maddow has.
