Like a Star Trek convention, a Superman festival brings out the weirdest folks.
Colin Powell a member of the Village People?
I have to say that when Barney sent me this, and I first read it, I said to my self “Am I really reading this on CNN and not The Onion?” Needless to say, I never thought I’d see the day when high-ranking U.S. officials dress up and sing a version of “YMCA”. There’s even a video of the event, if you subscribe to CNN’s Premium Content (which I don’t — does anybody here?).
Happy 4th of July
Have some fun with some fireworks — the virtual kind. Please don’t be one of those bastards that are trying to upstage the fireworks show on the Butte and keep me up all night. Some of us have to work tomorrow — and today for that matter — and if you wake up me or my 11-month-old or my 4-year-old, there’s going to be an ass-kicking coming somebody’s way.
“Stop beating up your women because you can’t find a job.”
Harsh words directed at blacks from Bill Cosby. This was after he lambasted blacks last month.
What Bill said was harsh, but he’s absolutely right: No matter if you black, white, purple, or whatever, you can’t keep blaming your problems on somebody else keeping you down. Ninety-percent of the time, the problem is not somebody else, but it’s you.
Fox News Porn
Fox News was doing a story on protecting kids from porn, and they clearly blurred the breasts in this image, but missed the full penetration.
Whoops.
Link via a thousand places (it was linked a pile of times in my RSS reader today).
$737,760
That’s how much Ken Jennings has won in 22-straight wins on Jeopardy. Needless to say, in his last win, he said that for the first time, he was in favor of the Bush tax cuts. The only record this guy hasn’t claimed is the single-day winnings: That record stands at $52,000.
This Is Very Typical Sony
They’re trying to compete with the iPod — a bad idea in its own right — with a player that, while smaller, has a smaller hard drive and uses Sony’s proprietary ATRAC3 compression format. What this means is you have to use their jackass software to put songs on the thing, instead of just dragging and dropping or using damn near any software you want with the iPod.
Extreme Unicyclists in Central Oregon
I use NetNews Tracker to run daily Usenet searches to find news of interest. Generally, what it comes across it completely irrelevant, but today it sent me to a post that linked to a local company that makes and sells some pretty damn cool extreme, unicycles frames, and parts. Looking at the pictures of what these guys do I think I can safely say that they are absolutely nuts — in that “Man, I was I was talented enough to pull that of” sort of way.
Anybody else know of Bend (or Central Oregon) companies that are cool or interesting? It’s always amazing to me the way people make money around here.
Screw ASCII Art
This guy’s typewriter art is far more impressive. Thanks Barney for the link.
Simone, Print This Up
If anybody out there takes photographs at all (I’m looking at you, Simone), be sure to carry around this handy document that describes what you can take pictures of, what do to if you get arrested, what to do if they ask to confiscate your film, etc… .
