Download A Piece Of History

If you have an extra 900GB+ of free hard drive space sitting around, you can download the entire Geocities archive. I’m sure 90% of that is “Under Construction” GIFs and obnoxious MIDI files, but it’s still an important piece of Internet history (and there where a few useful reference sites here and there).

More commentary here and background of the project here.

Time Killer For The Evening

Omnom Forest starts off nice and easy until you get a bunch of those cute litte obnoxious creatures on your screen at once and you have to keep them happy.

Reading/Watching Material

First off: Cheap plug. I’m playing with the Central Oregon Symphony this weekend, and I’d encourage you to come out and see the show. The piano soloist we have coming to play with us is phenomenal, and it’ll be a great show. Concerts are free, click here for ticket info.

OK, enough of the plugging, let’s get down to business (videos are after the jump).

Boba Just Sent Jabba His Invoice

And it ain’t pretty.

This guy also helped create the Subaru Mediocrity web site which is hilarious.

Obama Hasn’t Done A Thing

I mean, seriously, what has the guy accomplished so far (NSFW language, obviously)?

Size Does Matter

As this video shows so very well (totally safe for work, don’t worry):

FarmVille Kills

Mom of the decade nominee here, folks.

Facebook and those stupid little addicted games are dangerous — especially if you’re the baby of a Facecrack-addicted worthless mom:

A Jacksonville mother charged with shaking her baby to death has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Alexandra V. Tobias, 22, was arrested after the January death of 3-month-old Dylan Lee Edmondson. She told investigators she became angry because the baby was crying while she was playing a computer game called FarmVille on the Facebook social-networking website.

You hear that, folks? Farmville kills.

(Actually, poor parenting kills, but that’s beside the point and doesn’t make for as good of a headline.)

Arrest records are here and follow-up story here.

Teleport Anywhere

I’ve spent far too much time playing with Globe Genie this morning. Push a button, and it transports you to a random Google Street View scene from around the world. Like this random farm road in North Dakota.

Time Killers For The Evening

Couple time killers and then I’m going to ignore the world for the evening after this weekend’s fiasco (which, thankfully, I think is resolved finally — maybe someday I’ll write up a post for all the geeks here who might understand the mess I was dealing with).

  • Coaster Racer is a fun little race car game that gets addicting pretty fast (though it is a bit resource intensive if your computer is a bit on the under-powered side).
  • Momiga is a great little one-button game with simple task: get the dot across the screen. It took me a bit to get the last level, but I managed 200 clicks.

Almost Back Up And Running

We had a fairly major server outage yesterday. I won’t go into the details of it all, as I haven’t slept much in the last 24 hours and I’m utterly exhausted (yesterday was one of the nastiest days of my life, and this was just one of many things to go nuts yesterday). I’m slowly getting things back up and running 100%. If you notice anything weird, comment below (or even if you want to express your sympathies, that’d be fine, too). If commenting’s not working, email me at utterlyboring at gmail dot com.

Update: Still at it. Had some issues crop up overnight, but hopefully I’ll get this resolved permanently soon (and I’m seriously considering getting out of the hosting biz — I have enough stress in my life as it is).
