Lego Creations

This is far more impressive than the converted Powerbook I mentioned before. This guy created a whole computer from scratch and the case is entirely Lego.

And then there’s this guy that made a 10-foot speed boat entirely out of Lego.

Some people have far too much time on their hands.

“Oregon Legislature to Experience Mental Illness”

That was the exact headline of a press release sent around by NAMI. The actual press release (with a better headline) is here.

I don’t know about you, but that original headline reads as a tasteless joke, but maybe it’s just me.

Beer Fights Cancer

There’s apparently some mystery ingredient in beer that, taken in moderation, can help fight cancer.

Professional Basketball Coming To Central Oregon?

This could be interesting.

A minor-league professional basketball organization with a reputation for sending players to the NBA hopes to place a new franchise in Central Oregon.

The Continental Basketball Association is currently in communication with local officials and a potential ownership group about forming a CBA team that would be based in Redmond starting with the 2005-2006 season.

What’s more interesting is that while they don’t hold open tryouts for the team, they do have their eye on Chris Baert, who I went to high-school with and now currently plays with an ABA team.

Religious “Healing” Kills Heart Patient

According to police, the wheelchair-bound man, a heart patient, had come to a Benny Hinn event to get healed along with scores of people. The victim suffered an attack and died even as the evangelist commenced the faith-based healing service, a police officer said. Full Story. Thanks Barney for the link.

It’s All Uphill From Here

More Central Oregon Bloggers

I’m in the process of getting a better catalog together of Central Oregon bloggers (including aggregating some content — stay tuned), but in the meanwhile, a couple more local bloggers have popped up on orblogs.com:

The Grumpy Forester

VOIP Now

Forester is based in LaPine, and VOIP Now has GeoURL tags that put it in Bend. However, it appears, looking at their WhoIs, it’s a project of DotMarketer (as they’ve started blogs before), so I don’t know if they’re actually based in Bend or not. Can somebody from that company contact me or comment here to clear it all up?

Regardless, welcome to both of you! Once we start having more get-togethers, you guys are welcome to come (and that goes to any local blogger). Sign up for our mailing list, as we usually discuss that type of stuff there (note that all subscriptions are moderated, so expect a reply back from me before you get on the list).

Doom 3 Review

Since Brian doesn’t have a computer that will actually run Doom 3, he decided to write an in-depth review on the box it came in.

Free Tax Filing

I’m mostly bookmarking this for my own reference but this page will be handy for anybody in the U.S., so I thought I’d share.

I’ve generally paid money every year to file my taxes with TurboTax (which is so stupidly easy to use, even for complicated returns, that I don’t know why people pay H&R Block $250+ to do it all). But if you go through the links at the above site, you can get a free federal filing on TurboTax and a ton of other sites (you still might have to pay for state tax filing). Since I’ll also be doing my in-law’s taxes, this will be very handy.

Now I just need to get my paperwork from the department of education and from Google (as I have to claim my meager AdSense earnings as income), then I can start filing this bad boy and (hopefully) get a fat refund to completely pay off the hospital (still owe them money from last year’s surgery) and maybe buy a toy or something.

Bunny Suicide

How does a bunny commit suicide? It would probably go something like this.
