Anybody Have A Video Of This?

Because I have to say, drop-kicking the extra point in an NFL game is pretty dang cool.

Linksys Router No Longer Open Source

This link is mostly for my reference, but some of my geek readers might find it interesting.

I’ve recommended for several people the Linksys WRT54G router. It’s a good router, and, up until v. 5 of the router, used open-source firmware so a lot of great hacks were out there to make the thing a full-fledged firewall solution.

Unfortunately, with version 5 of the router came a firmware from another company that is not open-source, so none of the firewall hacks mentioned in the link above work.

So when you buy one of these routers, make sure it’s either a version 4 (or less) version of the above WRT54G router, or buy their new WRT54GL version of the router which uses the open-source firmware.

Best Use of a Tivo Ever

If you really want to freak an avid lotto player out, Tivo last week’s drawing, buy him a ticket with those same numbers, and then replay the drawing while he’s watching (without him knowing it was a recording).

Modern technology can sometimes make practical jokes far too easy.

This Is Going In My Speed Dial

OK, so I’m a bit slow and missed this before, but I’m putting 1-800-FREE411 in my cell phone’s speed dial. All you have to do is listen to a quick advertisement, and it’s free (which is better than what my cell phone company charges for 411 access).

Trade In Your CDs For An iPod

I could probably round up 85 CDs and get myself a used Nano.

Oh, and Happy New Year! How many times have you written 1/1/05 today (I’m guilty of three, so far).

Horribly Dated Link Dump

I’ve had these links flagged in my RSS reader for quite a while, and I just need to get them out of there before I go nuts with a bunch of six-month-old links sitting there:

That’s enough for now. I’ve got many more, but it’s late, and this shoud keep you busy for a bit. Many of the above links are from fullalbums.com.

The 61 Second Minute

This New Years eve at just before 4PM Pacific Time (midnight GMT), an extra second will be added to the atomic clock. So what are you going to do with the extra time? Al asked his family and his wife said he could kiss her and son said they’d pet the dog.

Idiot Crook For The Day

If you’re going to print counterfeit bills on your printer, solve printer jams yourself and don’t send the thing out for repair still loaded with fakes (yes, I know the link’s over a month old — I’m a bit back logged on my flagged links).

Futurama May Make A Return

I know this news is over a week old, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be totally cool.

The City of “UNDATED, Ore.”

The National Weather Service issued high wind warnings for the Central Oregon coast. And according to the dateline of the story, we need to be sure we avoid the city “UNDATED” as that’s where the story was written.

Pays to filter (or actually read) your AP feeds, folks, as anybody who has worked in a newsroom knows, AP feeds notoriously have issues like this. It’s not the first time it’s happened.
