Band Concerts Coming Up

This is for you RSS-feed-reading or e-mail-list-reading folk who have no idea that I just put a cheap plug on top of my site that will go away in a week or so. So for those folks: Coming This Weekend: CASCADE WINDS SYMPHONIC BAND IN CONCERT: Sunday, March 19, 2:00 p.m. & Monday, March 20, 7:30 p.m., Pinckney Center for the Performing Arts, COCC. FREE. Among the diverse repertoire on this concert, the Cascade Winds, under the direction of Michael Gesme, will present four works by American composer Leroy Anderson and a work for solo bassoon featuring Wendy Bloom and a piece where you get to see me make music with Sandpaper blocks. Now that’s entertainment, right?. Info: COCC Box Office: 383-7575 or online at www.cascadewinds.org. Free and open to all.

(Editor’s Note: Now in all the years I’ve mentioned the band on this site, I don’t think I’ve gotten a single person to come to the concert from a post here. I’d really like to change that, as the group is really good, we have a lot of fun, and the music is wonderful. And you get to see me in a tux. And it’s free. So what have you got to lose? I hope to see you there, and be sure to stop by and say “Hi”).

Lego Creations

There are some very cool creations here with this Volvo and this Air Conditioner being my favorite.

Miscast Movies

Some actors just don’t belong in any movies, let alone some of these Wallace and Gromit in “Basic Instinct”? That’s just wrong. Bill Gates as the 40 Year Old Virgin. And I would never watch this one.

Mary Had A Little Lamb

And so did Mr. Johnson… .

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — A deputy fire chief is on paid leave following his arrest in alleged bestial acts with his next-door neighbor’s lamb, authorities said.

[…]

Johnson, 52, was booked on three misdemeanor charges — disorderly conduct, trespassing and public sexual indecency, authorities said. He was released from jail on his own recognizance Sunday.

This just makes me thing of a certain Woody Allen movie. I’m sure if you’re seen that movie, you know all about Gene Wilder and “Daisy.”

License Free Fonts

This is mostly for my reference as I’m sicking of paying a pile of money for nice font collections when I can get great collections and use the however I want for free. Link via mezzoblue.

The World May Be Out Of Natural Blondes in 200 Years

Apparently, the last truly natural blonde might be born in Finland in roughly 2202.

Update: Thanks to Mrs H. for pointing out that this little fact mentioned in the article is a hoax (and I did put “blondes” into Snopes’ search engine I just couldn’t find it). That being said, the main point of the article was about how Caveman-era humans were the first natural blondes, and this little fact just was buried in it. The article is still worth a read.

A Love Letter to Hamburgers

After reading this, I really have the urge for a good burger. If they were only open past 3

Legend Of Zelda is 20 Years Old

Man, I loved that game as a kid, and was stupidly excited when I finished the game, onlly to then find out that there was a horribly complicated second quest. Here’s a look back at the last 20 years.

Who Needs Petroleum?

There will never be an oil crisis if we start making fuel from cow crap.

Victoria Didn’t Have Many Secrets in The 70s, Either

Just check out these scans of Victoria’s Secret catalogs from 1977 and while they’re a bit more conservative (I still wouldn’t argue with seeing my wife in anything they sold back then), things haven’t changed much (at least with their clothes — the models wearing them certainly have).
