The Final Four Has Been Set

The Final Four has been set for the 2011 Pick ’em, and today’s big upset plus yesterday’s slighty-less-big upset screwed up the brackets for everybody. Only a few folks can still score points next weekend, and unless I’m reading the thing wrong (correct me if I am, as I can’t get the group scenario generator to load), “TeamTopflite” (Nancy) cannot lose and has first place wrapped up. Second and third places are still up in the air, as it depends on whether Connecticut goes on to win the whole thing or not. If they lose in the Final Four or in the championship game, the standings will stay the same with “bojack” in second place, and “windy wandle” taking third. However if Connecticut goes on to win the whole thing (which “TeamTopflite” and “windy wandle” both predicted”), then “bojack” will be knocked down to third place (all three of them picked UConn and Kansas to make it to the championship game, but “bojack” picked Kansas to win the whole thing).

A couple other folks will move around a bit depending on how things play out next weekend, but the folks in the top three should stay in the top three.

At least that’s how I think it looks like. Again, correct me if I’m wrong. Just the same, the scoring spreadsheet has been updated.

Maddening Time Killer For The Evening

I died nearly 1000 times before I finished the simply devilish Space Is Key.

Only Eight Teams Are Left

The sweet sixteen is over, and like I thought might happen yesterday, bojack has jumped up to first place in the pick ’em. He’s in a three-way tie for first with “Jen’s a Loser” (Jen F of a certain local blog) and “The Madness of March” (HeatherH). There are three folks tied for fourth place at the moment, only a single point behind the leaders, with “TeamTopFlite” and “windy wandle” in that mix a loads of potential points on the table. The current scores are here. I can’t get the scenario generator to finish loading so I haven’t the foggiest idea how this will all play out. All I know is that Ohio State losing screwed up a lot of brackets (mine included).

The games over the next two days are worth five points each, and I’ll post a scoring round-up on Sunday when the Final Four has been set. Good luck!

Day One Of The Sweet 16 Is Over

The first day of the Sweet 16 games is over, and while the top two spots in the 2011 Pick ’em haven’t changed, I have a feeling they’re going to fairly soon. Looking at the scores, “The Madness of March” (HeatherH), “The Dren Said So” (mike) and monkeyinabox.net (wackycat2) still hold the top three spots, but bojack made a pretty good jump in the standings. The real key here, too, is that all of bojack’s Final Four teams are still alive, which can’t be said about any of the folks above him. He still has the potential to score the most points, but things may change this weekend, as “TeamTopFlite” and “windy wandle” also have all four of their Final Four teams still alive, but they’re slightly different than bojack.

Things are going to get really interested as the weekend plays on. Good luck!

First Person Mario

What if Super Mario Bros. was a first-person shooter? Might look something like this:

On a completely un-related note, Pick ’em games are starting up again tonight in a few hours. There are four tonight, four tomorrow (worth three points each), and then two each on Saturday/Sunday (worth five points each). Good luck!

Heroes In Japan Earthquake

Looking for some good news from Japan? Look no further than Hideaki Akaiwa, who decided not to wait for rescue workers, instead deciding to take on the flooded streets himself.

Worried About Radiation Exposure From Japan?

Don’t be. This handy-dandy chart shows that you get more radioactive exposure from many other places. And you’re still alive, right?

Yes, radiation poisoning can be a Very Bad Thing™ but the people who are freaking out about it unnecessarily need to calm down a bit. I’d still put a reactor in my backyard if I could.

Need A Case For Computer?

Why not just use the box your motherboard came in?

In the quest to cut down on shipping waste Taiwan’s Asus has a novel idea: What if the shipping container became the PC case?

That’s the idea behind a box the company will begin using from June to ship one of its Mini ATX motherboards. It holds the motherboard snug for shipping and is constructed so additional components required to make a PC can be added.

(…)

Asus said the box is intended to allow PC enthusiasts to get their new computers up and running quickly while they search for the perfect case.

If you dig through the Ghetto Mod thread on [H}ardForum, using boxes as a permanent case isn’t that uncommon.

Time Killers For The Evening

A few fun games to kill off the evening:

  • Chess Without Turns is just like it sounds: You play chess against an opponent trying to clear off all their pieces as fast as you can, but there are no turns, so it’s just a free for all.
  • I like the illustrations behind Push The Cat which is just a fun little game that involves you dropping stuff on a cat.
  • Battle Paint is another fun one where the gameboard gets full of color really quick.
