Day One Of The Pick ’em Is Over

A few upsets today made it so we didn’t have any body pick all the winners in the first round of the pick ’em today (unlike last year), but we did end up with two nearly-perfect brackets. Picking 15 of the 16 games correctly today were “Lost Cause” and “Zen-ish”. Both were thrown off by different upsets.

As usual, I’m towards the bottom, tied for 28 out of 41.

Scores for the day are posted here. Good luck tomorrow!

March Madness Is Here!

We have 42 folks playing in this year’s pick ’em. Good luck everybody, and I’ll be posting scores here late tonight after the first day of games has concluded.

Selection Sunday is coming up on March 11 here and it’s time for offices all over the country to create office pools for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship (and for workplace productivity to grind to a halt). And it’s time for the readers of this site to compete for bragging rights (and some great prizes) in the seventh-annual UtterlyBoring.com Tournament Pick ‘Em. Last years contest info was here with final scoring here. TeamTopflite is looking to defend his title.

It’s free to play, and doesn’t require you to know anything about college basketball. So read on for the sign up information, prizes, and more!

Looking for Prize Donations for the 2012 UtterlyBoring.com NCAA Pick ’em

It’s almost that time again for our annual March Madness NCAA Tournament Pick ’em. I’m trying to get things organized a bit for this year’s annual (our seventh year doing this — see some past events here, here, here, here, and here) and am working on collecting prizes for the winners. Does anybody have anything would like to contribute or know anybody (or a business) who would like to donate a prize?

As usual, all prize submitters will get text link on the tourny page (which will be available at utterlyboring.com/pickem). I’ll also be rotating 125×125 pixel ad banners for your company or blog or whatever during the duration of the tournament on utterlyboring, com, bendblogs.com, and hopefully on hackbend.com as well (we did last year, but still need to confirm with Jon), giving your business or site a good chunk of online exposure.

Anything can be submitted for a prize, as I’m pretty casual, as are the folks who participate in the tournament. If you have anything fun, weird, stupid, interesting, cool, whatever you want to throw into the prize pot, by all means let me know (comment here with your email address so I can contact you or e-mail me at utterlyboring {at} gmail {dot} com).

The Pick ’em Is Over!

First off, sorry I didn’t get this posted last night. I was drained after a long day of work and rehearsals, I missed the game, and didn’t even know who won until this morning. Sounds like I didn’t miss much of a game anyway.

As mentioned last week, the 2011 Pick ’em wouldn’t be fully decided until the final day. Thanks to UConn’s underwhelming win (Butler shot under 19% shooting, UConn was under 35% shooting), bojack got knocked down to third place, “TeamTopflite” has won the tournament with “windy wandle” getting second place, and bojack taking third. The final scores have been posted.

I’ll be getting in touch with all the winners this week. Per the rules, you have two weeks to get back to me, other wise the prizes go to the next person on the list. Make sure your email address it visible on the tournament member page otherwise I have no idea how to verify you are who you say you are.

A big thanks again to our prize providers, for which this tournament wouldn’t exist without them:

Mug Revolution

SUPERAntiSpyware

Home Improvement Services

Jake’s Diner

Paizano’s Pizza

and Tyler (who didn’t have a web site to link to)

Click over, check out the sponsors, and support them for supporting us!

Thanks again everybody for participating, and we’ll see you next year!

The Final Four Is Over, But The Pick ’em is Not

Usually by this point in the Pick ’em, we already have the top spots all figured out. But as I mentioned last week, since Connecticut won today, the top three spots won’t be completely finalized until after Monday’s game (read last week’s post for how it can all shake out).

Today’s game didn’t change the standings for the bulk majority of the folks, as not too many people had any of these teams in their Final Four, but “Casebeer” (Case) and “Canadian Invaders” (Andrew) shot up to fourth and fifth, respectively. The only two folks who have points still to score are “TeamTopflite” and “windy wandle”, who will get first and second if UConn wins. The full spreadsheet is here.

The Final Four Has Been Set

The Final Four has been set for the 2011 Pick ’em, and today’s big upset plus yesterday’s slighty-less-big upset screwed up the brackets for everybody. Only a few folks can still score points next weekend, and unless I’m reading the thing wrong (correct me if I am, as I can’t get the group scenario generator to load), “TeamTopflite” (Nancy) cannot lose and has first place wrapped up. Second and third places are still up in the air, as it depends on whether Connecticut goes on to win the whole thing or not. If they lose in the Final Four or in the championship game, the standings will stay the same with “bojack” in second place, and “windy wandle” taking third. However if Connecticut goes on to win the whole thing (which “TeamTopflite” and “windy wandle” both predicted”), then “bojack” will be knocked down to third place (all three of them picked UConn and Kansas to make it to the championship game, but “bojack” picked Kansas to win the whole thing).

A couple other folks will move around a bit depending on how things play out next weekend, but the folks in the top three should stay in the top three.

At least that’s how I think it looks like. Again, correct me if I’m wrong. Just the same, the scoring spreadsheet has been updated.

Only Eight Teams Are Left

The sweet sixteen is over, and like I thought might happen yesterday, bojack has jumped up to first place in the pick ’em. He’s in a three-way tie for first with “Jen’s a Loser” (Jen F of a certain local blog) and “The Madness of March” (HeatherH). There are three folks tied for fourth place at the moment, only a single point behind the leaders, with “TeamTopFlite” and “windy wandle” in that mix a loads of potential points on the table. The current scores are here. I can’t get the scenario generator to finish loading so I haven’t the foggiest idea how this will all play out. All I know is that Ohio State losing screwed up a lot of brackets (mine included).

The games over the next two days are worth five points each, and I’ll post a scoring round-up on Sunday when the Final Four has been set. Good luck!
