There’s some lava just north of Sunriver. I’m sure the map is referring to the Lava Butte Lookout, but it looks funny to just see “Lava” on a map.
OK, I’ll get back to work now.

The county prison here must be pretty nice (it is fairly new). It must be so nice, that it causes criminals who were released from there to want to go back. Or something like that. To quote the story:
Jodie Lynn Ackerman, 24, was being held for trial on unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal trespass when she and two fellow inmates were released around 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday after the 28-bed women?s portion of the 228-bed jail reached capacity.
Late Saturday night, Ackerman was booked back into the jail on charges of second-degree theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief and a probation violation, the latter charge bringing a no-bail ?hold? pending her initial court appearance Monday.
Sadly, I’m sure we’ll see more releases like, and I’m sure this won’t be the first person with short-term freedom.
While it’s scary that this stuff was in stores, I find the picture attached to this story to be much funnier:
Thanks for Barney at Bend.com for taking an appropriate photo for this.
Came across monkeyinabox on ORblogs today, and he’s based in Bend. So that brings the total, as far as I know, to a whole five bloggers (that I know of — please let me know if there are more that I don’t know about).
I know of about three folks (Roger, Jon, and Josh). Who am I missing? Is there anybody who, like Roger, lives on the outskirts of town and is maintaining a site? Or anybody in Central Oregon at all that is, no matter how you connect?
The reason I ask is that I know someone who is considering writing a story on Central Oregon bloggers, but needs a few more bloggers to make it worthwhile (at least in her editor’s view).
Regardless, e-mail me at jake [at] orty [dot] com, and I’ll get you in touch with the right folks. You can also use my e-mail me form on the right column of every page on this site (or just click on my e-mail address on my personal site).
It can only be good for us to get some exposure, so let’s see if we can!
Camp Sherman has been evacuated, and the B and B Complex fires have are one, nasty, 70,000+ acre mess. The smoke here in Bend is getting thicker, and causing me to sneeze a bit (and when have back/leg pain, sneezing hurts like hell). But I could see the smoke billowing here in Bend on the way home from work.
Last Wednesday, Bend police sent out a mug shot through the media: They were on the look out for a fugitive, and he was in the area. This is the mug shot they released to the local media:

A few days later, another mug shot, from last December, appeared in the local media:

Today, he was captured in Madras, and this is the mugshot that the Jefferson County Jail took:

Well it’s no flippin’ wonder that the locals weren’t much help catching the guy: He doesn’t look anything like his original mugs. Of course, with that hair, he looks like his parents could’ve been Simpson characters:

Regardless, I’m glad to hear the guy’s off the street.
It’s been closed for nearly two weeks now, but opened back up this morning at 9:00 AM. Does that mean we can send all the annoying tourists home so I don’t have to fear for my life as I drive through town? Please? No? Damn.
Her mother was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and providing a vehicle to an unqualified driver. Full Story in the Statesman Journal. Link from Obscure.
As Barney at Bend.com reported, Bend was (again) named as one of five “best places to retire.”
Man, I need to get out of here before we get more blind-as-a-bat geriatrics behind the wheel. We need mass transit here, and we need it now.
