Stupidly Busy — Can somebody help?

Way behind on links, have a pile of projects to do, will catch up at some point. Have to do a Web design job for a local non-profit, and am in Web designers brain-fart mode. The non-profit has a vertically-oriented logo and, to be quite honestly with you, I can’t say that I’ve ever worked with a vertical logo, and it’s proving more difficult than I imagined.

That, and I don’t do frilly, simple sites very well. If a site’s got a pile of content, I can do that as then the content generally dictates the design, but simple frilly crap when I have no graphics and very little content to work with, they aren’t really all that much fun for me.

So if anybody out there has a good template to get me started with this logo (designed by the studs at iconix), I’d be grateful (and you’ll receive a link here, without question, and possibly on the redesigned site) — then maybe I can get some stock photography to fill the thing out, give it some color. I just need a starting point, which I’m at a loss for (and nothing at OSWD is any help).

Once I get a template in place, I can easily populate it (and do all the other stuff I need to do — setup donation system, setup mailing list system, setup news system), but I just am not in the creative mode right now. I’m in a programmer mode, and that’s not making doing creative things very easily.

But once this project is off my back, I’ll be able to get far more links up.

Searching For and Getting Rid Of Stuff

I’ve got a few cell phones and accessories up on eBay. It’s mostly Sprint PCS stuff, but there are some other chargers and such on there.

I also have an HP LaserJet 1000 sitting here in my office that needs a home. Had a co-worker who wanted to get rid of it because she couldn’t get it working, though I have a feeling it works fine but it just didn’t work with her ancient computer. Make me an offer, and it’s yours to pick up locally.

I’ve got an older 12-port SMC Hub (part number SMC3512TP). It’s 10mbs, manageable, rack-mountable, and sitting on my desk taking up room. You want it? Come out to Sunriver, buy me lunch (joking … sort of), and you can have it.

I’m also looking for some Atec Masterview Pro KVM Cables (they look something like this). Basically, they’re a 25-Pin plug on one side with PS2 Mouse/Keyboard and VGA plugs on the other end. I know there are other companies that make cables like this that aren’t necessarily built for Atecs but will still work. Just let me know if you have something like this.

Still sick, With Random Notes

Still laid up with a cold. Have about 4,000 links to post, no time/energy to do it. I’m up right now because my daughter made a mess in her diaper, and it was my turn to change her. So I decided to grab a snack, blog a note, and I’m heading back to bed.

On a random positive note, we had rain-gutters installed today. I know that everybody who knows Central Oregon at all knows that you don’t need them at often, but the one problem with the way our house was built is that all the water that flows off the roof flows into two places — above the front and back doors. So gutters were installed in those places. They were a gift from my parents for my birthday (which was back in May). They were here at the butt-crack of dawn to install them, but after they did, you could barely see they were there as they were painted to match the house. It’s actually pretty dang slick, and they have a lifetime warranty on installation and leaks.

On a random negative note, the ad shoot I’m doing with Simone for work had to be put off another day because of nasty weather. Hopefully it’ll clear up tomorrow and we’ll be able to get the shots I need for this ad campaign I’m doing. I’ve got 10-days until deadline at this point, but the photo will dictate the design, so I don’t think it’ll be too hard.

OK, I’m going back to bed. G’night.

Stupid Cold

Tired. Head plugged with snot. Blog fill with content later. Drugs more need. Grunt.

Daughter’s First Birthday

Just an update on my whereabouts. I won’t be blogging much today (yesterday I was busy as heck, which is why there weren’t many posts), as it’s my daughter’s first birthday. I’ll try to get some pictures of her destroying the cake later and get those online.

Anybody Want A Gameboy Advance SP?

I’ve got a Red Gameboy Advance SP with “Scooby Doo Mystery Mahem” as well as an Intec Wing Grip (looks like this thing). The case is scuffed up, but everything on there works and functions fine. I don’t have the AC Adapter/charger for it, but it powers up and runs fine, it appears. Backlight works. I really don’t know what else to test on it, as I’m not a GBA whiz, but e-mail me if you have specific questions.

I’m not looking to sell this. If I get your cash, I’ll spend it foolishly. I’m looking to trade it for one or more of these things:

-512 MEG PC2100 (or better) SO-DIMM.

-An AIW (All in Wonder) Radeon or better AIW card (if I get one of these, I have a AIW Rage 128 that I’ll get rid of)

-A PDA — I just need something basic, but wouldn’t argue with something fancy ;-).

-Something interesting (just e-mail me, and I’ll see).

I’m getting some parts from an old computer so I might have some other stuff to play with. I’ll post here if I get anything useful.

E-mail or comment here if you have what I need.

Update on 7/19: I’ve posted pics here.

Update on 11/20: GameBoy is LONG gone. Sorry I didn’t update this a while ago.

Anybody out there have young kids?

The wife got me roped into doing this sticker club chain letter thing, since she couldn’t think of people to send this to. I need to get ahold of a few names and addresses of kids that might be interested in participating (age 3 or older, I guess — anybody who’d be interested in getting stickers in the mail, I guess). Basically, you send a name on the list a little pack of stickers, and then send the letter you receive from me onto 6 other folks, moving your kid’s name in the spot. In the long run, your kid will end up getting 36 packs of stickers if everybody participates.

Anyway, if you’re interested in participating, e-mail me (jake – utterlyboring – c0m) with the name of your kid and your mailing address.

Busy

Sorry about the light blogging lately, compared to my usual five or more posts a day. I’ve been busy as hell at work and with side projects, as well as beating the living crap out of some servers that need to be drug behind my car on a chain. More entries to come soon, hopefully.

I’m part of the “in” crowd

I now have a Gmail account at jakeortman, thanks to Ken. Have yet to play with it, but it’s never a bad thing to have that kind of storage sitting out there. Update 6/17: I got a couple more invites over night, so I’m now jakeortman and utterlyboring. So if you ever need to send me big ol’ files, you’re welcome to fill either of those accounts.

7 Hours Later…

…and the online booking server at work is back online. I reverted back to Windows 2000 versus running it on Windows 2003 as our reservation system had some performance and stability issues with Windows 2003 (it’s an old piece of crap, DOS-based system, so I don’t blame Microsoft on this one, I blame the software). I rebuilt the exporting scripts, fixed the IIS permissions, updated, patched, sliced, and diced. I still need re-do the SSL cert as my cert backup doesn’t seem to want to work, so that’s on the to-do list for tomorrow, as well as getting FTP access back up (not a critical thing, as I rarely use FTP to get onto the server). Performance is much better on the server under Windows 2K than Windows 2K3, and more stable.

Now I just need to catch up with my other work, which will take longer. Ugh.
