No, that’s not actually how fast he drove, but that’s how fast the video is. He drove from LA to Oregon with a Camera on the front of his car, captured the video to his hard drive, sped it up 95x, and then published a video online. Since it was posted on Slashdot, the site is down, but there are mirrors and torrents available. Link via Waxy.

College Students Develop NES Games in Class
I wish I got college credit for doing stuff like this. Granted, I got college credit for playing pool, but that’s beside the point. Carnegie Mellon students are developing new NES games. Here’s a link to the class’ site as well as to the downloads. Link via /. and has been sitting in my box to post for a while.
Great Drum Solos
I’m a drummer. Have been since I was about 12. I, unfortunately, don’t play the drum set as much as I’d like (I play mostly with the Cascade Winds and Central Oregon Symphony), but I do appreciate a good drum solo, and this page links to some great ones along with audio files of many of them. Good stuff, and I’m thinking I might have to see how many of these I can get onto a CD I can listen to on my drive home.
Every Played those Whack a Mole Games?
This is like that, but with your keyboard and some one-eyed aliens. Note that this game is far easier if you use the number pad on your keyboard — it’s a royal pain if you use the number row on your keyboard (which I’m stuck with as I’m on my laptop).
Using Unreal Tournament 2004 to play Golf?
Duffers Golf is a single and multiplayer modification for Epic Games’ Unreal Tournament 2004 that allows you to play a very well-done game of golf. That just goes to show the flexibility of the game’s engine. From Waxy’s Links.
The Law Prof Hunk / Babe of the Year Contest
I was never in law school, but I do remember some of the good looking women who used to hang out near the law school at UO. If was still in Eugene, I would happily submit pictures and names to Jack’s Law-Prof Hunk/Babe contest. Virginia, if you’re reading this (a girl I know, not the state), you’re about the only person I know in law school currently, so e-mail me so I can nominate you. Update: I mis-read Jack’s post: This contest is for law-profs only, not a hunk/babe student contest. Students can nominate, however.
Pac Manhattan
Pac-Manhattan is a large-scale urban game that utilizes the New York City grid to recreate the 1980’s video game sensation Pac-Man. This analog version of Pac-man is being developed in NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications graduate program, in order to explore what happens when games are removed from their “little world” of tabletops, televisions and computers and placed in the larger “real world” of street corners, and cities.
A player dressed as Pac-man will run around the Washington square park area of Manhattan while attempting to collect all of the virtual “dots” that run the length of the streets. Four players dressed as the ghosts Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde will attempt to catch Pac-man before all of the dots are collected.
Using cell-phone contact, Wi-Fi internet connections, and custom software designed by the Pac-Manhattan team, Pac-man and the ghosts will be tracked from a central location and their progress will be broadcast over the internet for viewers from around the world.
