Once You Reach Max Level…

…you stop leveling — like Sean Connery, who maxed out his stats 20 years ago, and still looks ready to kick your butt:

Storm Troopers 365

You’ve probably all seen the folks that post a single self-portrait a day on Flickr, but I bet you haven’t seen a Stormtrooper so candidly.

Animated GIF Extravaganza

Animated GIFs are all the rage lately, mostly because they can get through pretty much any corporate filter. I’ve collected quite a few of them lately on my hard drive, which I’ll upload to a directory here someday, many of which I’ve found via GIFExplode’s upload directory (warning — many of them are not remotely safe for work). You can kill quite a bit of time looking at the oddball stuff in that directory.

If you haven’t heard the story about GIFExplode, it’s an interesting one.

Fake Your Boss Into Thinking They’re Doing You Good

What started as a Dilbert cartoon has turned into a piece of code that gives you boss the illusion of managing you.

Mario Bros. Played By Software

I can’t wait to see the results of the Mario AI Competition:

This competition is about learning, or otherwise developing, the best controller (agent) for a version of Super Mario Bros.

The controller’s job is to win as many levels (of increasing difficulty) as possible. Each time step (24 per second in simualated time) the controller has to decide what action to take (left, right, jump etc) in response to the environment around Mario.

Update: Looks like somebody’s been working on this, with fairly impressive results:

Take Back The Beep

We know what to do at the voicemail beep — why do the cell phone companies insist on wasting more of our time telling us what to do? Well apparently, there’s ways to turn it off, which I didn’t know. If you use Sprint, follow the directions here to disable the voicemail instructions, and Engadget has other ways to shorten the greeting on other carriers.

The Good, The Bad…

and the Ugly…

Give it a minute to get going — it starts to roll about 1:15 in.

I Feel Old

100 Things Your Kids May Never Know About — and I know or did nearly every one of them (and my kids know about three things on there).

These Are The Commercials I Love

The ones that bring out so much emotion. This Thai Pantene television commercial is brilliant (even if not necessarily the most effective advertising for the product):

Thanks Barney for the link.
