One small victory, especially for Mac users

Just about three weeks ago, Sarah Ward, 65-year-old educator, artist, and grandmother, received notice that she was getting sued by the RIAA. Well, apparently, the RIAA came to their senses and dropped the suit. Why, you ask? The seven record labels sued Ward solely on the basis of “screen shots” from the KaZaA network and information obtained from a controversial subpoena issued to Comcast, Ward’s Internet service provider, under the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

Here’s the thing: Ward doesn’t use KaZaA. She’s never heard of it. Why? Ken will appreciate this: She doesn’t even own a PC, she uses a Mac, and KaZaA isn’t available on Macs.

Moral of this story: Avoiding lawsuits by paying for an overpriced Mac may very well be worth it.

The Bullet-proof briefcase

I need one of these, as you never know when it will come in handy. This thing is a briefcase that provides the following, critical, feature:

LIFE CASE will defeat bullets fired from submachine guns as well as .38, .357, and .44 Magnums..even 12ga .00 buckshot from shotguns as well as a whole spectrum of other calibers.

Now, if I ever have the need for this bag, that’s another worry entirely, but it’d still be cool, if not just for the James Bond nature of it.

That’s some fine piano playing

I tend to judge a piano player’s ability based on if they can play the Rach 3 — that, or the original Super Mario Brother’s themes. Latter link via alldumb.com.

Looking for cheap lodging on your next cross-country flight?

Just sleep in an airport. This site has tips and reviews of places to sleep in many of the world’s airports, plus general airport sleeping tips. I know I’ve had to sleep for a few hours at the Minneapolis, Denver, and Portland airports (due to weather delays), and Portland was by far the nicest. Denver wasn’t bad (as it was just rebuilt), and I was one of the lucky few who found the benches at the Minneapolis airport.

Print your own Monopoly money

Hasbro, the company that makes the popular game, has a web site that you can download PDFs of the play money so you can print your own, should you ever feel the need. Never know when you’ll need that extra $500 when you land on Boardwalk with a hotels or two.

Oregon’s a Top-10 team again!

After smacking around Michigan over the weekend, the Associated Press poll has Oregon at #10, ahead of Michigan at #11. The ESPN/USA Today poll still has Oregon at #15 (up from #22) with Michigan #10.

What does this mean? Well, not a whole helluva lot, thanks to the BCS, and the lack of a playoff system. but it does mean that Oregon’s starting to get a little respect. And hopefully when Washington State comes to town next week, we’ll be able to smack them around, too.

Ever wanted to make your own silly putty?

533-pound Halibut caught

Now if somebody just had a basketball sized lemon and a bucket of tarter sauce to go with this catch. Man, that’s a big dang fish.

Construct your own Red Meat comic

I’ve always loved the Red Meat comic strip. It is simple, sick, twisted, and so damn funny. Now you can build your own Red Meat comic. You can create your own, and they’re rated by the readers of the site — and there are some great ones.

Someone at Google is a Douglas Adams fan

If you search for answer to life, the universe, and everything the new calculator function they put in will tell you it?s 42. Which, if you’ve read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, is correct.
