Tourney Pick ’em Day 1 Score Update
Since these will be erased after the tournament is over, I wanted to try to keep a daily running tab here so that we can remember these for posterity.
But here are the point totals for each bracket in the group so far. There were 16 games today and 16 possible points. And these can (and will) change as the tournament goes on as you get more points for your teams in the latter rounds. For example: last year, I was winning after the first two days, but ended up getting nearly last overall. So things will certainly get messed up:
- PLU_STATS_231_2: 14
- goldenglove7624: 14
- jaylee: 14
- PAIZANO’S PIZZA: 14
- HEELSTAR: 13
- Rusty from Portland: 13
- #1 bracket: 13
- Scott’s Mad Dribblerz: 13
- jenB_goDucks!: 13
- Canadian Bacon: 12
- shots hot: 12
- bend no more: 12
- I can’t think of a name: 12
- bojack: 12
- casual picks: 12
- steph: 12
- Reigning Dud: 12
- shlid: 11
- Briar Patch Project: 11
- monkeyinabox: 11
- Bowser: 11
- Repeating Greatness: 11
- whiteybarkley: 11
- Jake’s ’07 Pick ’em: 11
- kandray’s bracket: 10
- Bretigny: 10
- Coz’s Bracket: 10
- MN Shivs: 10
- GO GATORS!!: 10
- Tasmanian Devils: 9
I removed the folks from the list who signed up for the group, but didn’t complete a bracket in time (there were a few of those).
Amazing Pranks
There are two hilarious pranks that I’d read about recently that deserved being mentioned here:
- The folks at Zug are some of the best pranksters out there, but the prank they managed to pull at the Super Bowl was pretty damn amazing.
- A Swiss man managed to con a newspaper into running a two-page spread Gucci ad that he created — and send the $50,000 bill to Gucci.
Games To Kill Off Your Day
There’s bound to be something in here that will kill off the rest of your day/week/lunch-hour (if the NCAA tournament isn’t already causing you to lose productivity):
- Flash Tron
- LUV Tank (cheesy 8-bit tank game).
- Make a paper airplane, and throw it as far as you can.
- A stupidly hard line game (thanks snowbug).
- Addicting and hard little Red Ball puzzle game.
- Can you name 192 UN Member states in 10 minutes? I can’t.
- A bunch of good freeware for your kids (so you can kill off your day doing something else).
- Slowest man explodes!
Anybody else have any to share?
Was The Death Star Attack an Inside Job?
This guy makes a pretty good argument:
We’ve all heard the “official conspiracy theory” of the Death Star attack. We all know about Luke Skywalker and his ragtag bunch of rebels, how they mounted a foolhardy attack on the most powerful, well-defended battle station ever built. And we’ve all seen the video over, and over, and over, of the one-in-a-million shot that resulted in a massive chain reaction that not just damaged, but completely obliterated that massive technological wonder.
Like many Americans, I was fed this story when I was growing up. But as I watched the video, I began to realize that all was not as it seemed. And the more I questioned the official story, the deeper into the rabbit hole I went.
Last Chance To Join The UtterlyBoring.com NCAA Tournament Pool
Today’s the final day to set your bracket as the tournament starts early tomorrow (I think they’re cutting off entries at 9AM Pacific Time tomorrow). We do have a few prizes that are going to the winner this year, so check them out and sign up today! I’ll post messages in the tournament group in Yahoo regarding how to claim your prizes, etc…, once it gets to that point (as this is all just for fun, folks).
Speaking of the tournament, there are 55 die-hard Oregon student fans that are not only getting tickets to the game, but they’re getting a ride up there (and additional tickets if Oregon advances), all paid for by the new athletic director.
Another Geekdom Link Dump
There are just some links I had sitting here that may be totally over the head of many of my readers, but I wanted them to be here so I could refer back to them.
- Google’s first server
- Default Router Password List (this is going in my toolbox)
- The Immaculate Backup (hilarious story).
- What do you do with your PC when you have no net connection?
- Cool little domain tool that tells you all sorts f things about your domain, including how much it thinks it’s worth.
- 4 Steps To Effective Web Design Pricing.
- Hacking Your FON Router To Install DD-WRT Firmware.
- Great little program to improve your typing skills (and can be used freely in classrooms).
- Ubuntu Ultimate Gamers Edition Live DVD (great way to have a complete Linux gaming OS in your pocket).
- If you have Vista and SATA hard drives (most new hard drives are SATA), you might want to make sure these settings are enabled.
- Registry hack to disable writing to USB drives (will be handy in corporate environments).
This Will Make My Wallet Thinner — In A Good Way
Something I’ve been meaning to mention on here for quite a while. Just One Club Card is a stupidly handy tool to consolidate several store club cards into one card with up to eight bar codes printed on it. Once I get through it, it will be replacing my Albertsons, PetCo, PetSmart, Safeway, Hallmark, OfficeMax, and a few others cards with custom bar codes (if I can get it to work with my two library cards, that’d be very nice).
However, I have no idea how well these work at the local stores. Anybody tried it?
