Really Bad Ad Cliches

Sadly, in designing an ad recently, I used copy from a professional ad copywriter that included some of these. It bothered me, but the client hired this guy to do it, so what can you do?

Programmer Cheat Sheets

There are cheat sheets all over the Web for a variety of programming languages. The one great thing about this page is that it has over 30 of them all sorted and linked to in one place, saving me a ton of trouble.

Want To Be A Genius?

An interesting article on what makes a genius, and how you can become one yourself. I’ll probably never be a genius, however, as I don’t even have the time to read the article all the way to the end. Oh well. Mediocrity is fine by me.

Turning Off My E-mail Form

For anybody who’s trying to e-mail me using the form on the right side of this page and you’re seeing an error, there’s a reason: there is some scummy script/bot/thingy out there that is pounding the form and sending me craploads of data from a variety of IP addresses. It’s obviously an attempt to see if they can use the script for spam (they can’t). Meanwhile, I’ve just renamed the file that the form uses until I can get a better mail script (with possible captcha support) that can ward off stupidity and keep it from getting to me. I’m looking to just implement this into my e-mailing script, but I haven’t quite found the time.

Meanwhile, if anybody wants to send me links or comments or what not, e-mail me at jake [at] orty [dot] com.

Windows Vista To Come in Seven Versions

It’s bad enough that there are several versions of Windows XP (Home, Professional, Media Center, Tablet, 64-bit, etc…), but it looks like Windows Vista, the next version of Windows, is going to come out of the gate in seven versions: Vista Starter Edition, Vista Home Basic Edition, Vista Home Premium Edition, Vista Ultimate Edition, Vista Small Business Edition, Vista Professional Edition, and Vista Enterprise Edition.

Does anybody else find that a touch confusing? Reading the article just makes it worse. More discussion here.

I Should Live To Be 84.31 Years Old

At least according to this in-depth life expectancy calculator. How long are you expected to live? Comment here.

Fun With Instant Messaging

What happens when you set your IM profile to “sexy girl” and then route your chat requests to other folks who are attempting to chat with ladies? You get some really messed up folks who, even after realizing they’re chatting with a guy, still talk dirty.

Easy Chess

Finally, a chess game that I have a chance at beating the computer player. And I did. Once. Out of five times I played. I suck.

Fun Flash Game For The Day

Nothing like a off-the-wall, weird little flash game to kill off your work day.

Another Reason Cats Hate People

I mentioned before one of the reasons, but I think I found another. Thanks kadyet for the link.
